Hoping for a B but more realistically a C(Original post by littleone271)
Haha I'm sure you've done better than you think. What grade are you hoping for in it?
Oh dear... well if she doesn't like it after a couple of weeks then I'm sure they'll let her switch to a different course, if it's later on in the year that she struggles with it/changes her mind then she can always just drop it and have 3 ASs.Have you decided what you're taking for AS yet?
I'm doing law, psychology, history and photography

Re: Worst reason to take a subject
Because a friend (or someone you fancy) does it.
To me that's worse than:
1) I like the teacher
2) I think it will make me money
3) It's the subject I hate least
4) It sounds easy
5) Because I'm good at it <-- Seems like a perfectly good reason to me.Last edited by Craig_D; 02-07-2012 at 14:53. -

I did a BTEC extended diploma in forensic science instead of A-levels cos my ASs were a disastrous mistake and now I'm going to uni to do psychology and criminal behaviour

Re: Worst reason to take a subjectI remember when I was choosing my GCSEs some people chose art because they thought it was easy and not much work(Original post by _Shmiley)
I know someone that's taking classics because they read the percy Jackson books and they now assume they know everything about the greeks and everything about classical civililisation.
What's the worse reason you've heard someone take a subject for ?

Re: Worst reason to take a subjectI would've taken Geography if i could be guaranteed to have a certain teacher(Original post by JLXP)
My friend took German because we had a really hot teacher.
We've all been there...

Re: Worst reason to take a subject
Loads of people in my year took childcare because they thought it would be a soft option- and were rather disillusioned when the coursework set in.
Loads of people took geography for the trip abroad- and were rather disillusioned when they found out that, for the 120 geographers, there were 45 places on the trip, which cost £615 for 5 days. To be fair though they had no way of knowing that when they chose their options and everyone in my year had to take either history or geography, and for those that didn't want to take either they may have needed any reason why one was better than the other in order to decide. -
Re: Worst reason to take a subjectTeachers are also guilty at pushing students to do subjects they don't really want to.(Original post by ellakrystina)
I don't think that books inspiring your subject choice is a bad reason at all. As long as you've researched the course and subject area and know what you're getting into, what's the problem?
I think a bad reason for choosing a subject is when it is not your own choice. For example, when families push their children into a certain subject/university because it's seen as respectable, or when parents want the child to follow in their footsteps. -
Re: Worst reason to take a subject
I initially took history because my GCSE teacher was such a great guy that I figured all of them would...

I was pretty lucky in the end, getting two further pretty great teachers and a couple of crappy ones. And now that I have finished, I really did enjoy history and really interested in learning more. -
Re: Worst reason to take a subject
Mine was more so along these lines;
'I'll take GCSE Spanish so that I can do two languages that I love and get to Uni and do languages!'
School 'Yep that's fine!'
Comes back after summer holidays and get my timetable but there's just big empty blocks instead of Spanish so I go to see the Head of Year.
'Miss is this when I have Spanish?'
Her 'No you're the only one who picked Spanish so we aren't running it'
Me 'So what will I do?'
Her 'Well if you'd come to see us before the holidays, you could have swapped to something else'
Me '...But I only found out today??'
Her 'We; the only place that has spaces is Music...'
I done the two years of GCSE music and came out with a C, it ruined music for me as I love my cello but I promised I would only play it for fun not to get graded on it. -
Re: Worst reason to take a subject(Original post by Cake Faced Kid.)
Someone in my school took all the same subjects as her boyfriend for A Level, because they were 'so in love omg soulmates 4evs!!1'
They split up four weeks into the school year, just past the cut off point for subject changes.
Why????
Did make me laugh though. Arguably the best in this thread
