Am I eligible for Clearing ?
I've been having second thoughts about my firm uni.

As I have already obtained higher grades than my first uni need I emailed the other uni I'm now interested in and asked about a few courses and if it is likely I can get a place in Adjustment. They replied today saying the clearing list will go up tomorrow and I can check if the course I'm interested is up tomorrow.

Would I even be eligible for Clearing if I have a firm Uni already that I've exceeded the requirements for ?

    Thanks

To get into clearing you have to give up the offer you hold. Eligibility for adjustment depends on you getting higher grades than your firm offer requires, which is not possible if it is an unconditional offer.

Not at the moment, but you can ask your firm (and insurance, if you have one) to reject/release you (depending upon whether the offer remains conditional or not) and then you will be able to enter Clearing. Don't do this until you're sure you don't want to go there, however.

If your offer was conditional and you exceeded the grades required, you are also eligible for Adjustment, but that doesn't start until August 16th.

If you try Clearing first, you won't be able to use Adjustment. You can try Adjustment and then do Clearing afterwards if it doesn't work, but Clearing will be all but over by the time you're entering it if you do this.

I already know I've exceeded the grades as I'm doing an access course which has no exams and I know how many merits/distinctions I have. And it's a conditional offer.

I rather not give up my firm as I definitely want to go somewhere in 2012 and don't want to end up with nothing. Though the main course I'm interested in is an integrated one with no requirement grades and all they ask for is a piece of writing. I don't know if it would be worth it if that course comes up.

You do have the option of seeing if what you want is in Clearing, and then getting released so you can pursue it. But there is always going to be a risk with getting released and using Clearing, because even then it could be filled before you can get to it.

Phone the university you're interested in and ask them for their advice and the likelihood of you getting anywhere with it.
