Just from the small bit of information in that article it looks brilliant. Cannot wait for it, Rome is probably my favourite game of the franchise, so really looking forward to II
EDIT:
Will add additional links into this post

Re: Total War: Rome IIThe only thing left now that I want from the franchise is Steampunk:Total War(Original post by Converse Rocker)
Agreed, I still play it to this day, and it's just a great game. I'm chuffed they chose Rome 2, although this does mean I'll want to get a gaming PC while at university.
Ahh great, planned on working as well.

Re: Total War: Rome II
I reckon the changes they're implementing in Rome II is setting it up for a WWII total war with beach landings, larger scale battles, naval/land integrated battles etc.

Ships and armies can now take part in the same battles when the situation demands it. As troop-carrying biremes crashed into the shore
I later asked if this ‘rolling start’ meant that the deployment phase was a thing of the past, but that’s not the case – instead, CA are looking to be more flexible about how battles can begin, based on various circumstances. Beach landings are a confirmed featureIn the final game it’ll no longer be necessary to swing the camera around to keep track of the battlefield. Rome 2 will feature a tactical view that allows players to zoom the camera out to a top-down, kilometer-square overview where units are represented by simplified icons. The new closest zoom setting is an absurdly detailed close-up that allows you to hover over a individual combatant’s shoulder in third-person.The sheer size of cities necessitates that battles be more complex than simply capturing and holding a single central location. In Rome 2, a successful siege will be a multi-part affair, with several dynamic objectives.Giving the player the power to pick the loadout of individual units of troops is something else that Creative Assembly are exploring. “There’s no reason that we can’t allow the player, maybe, to change the way those units are equipped” Ferguson says

Re: Total War: Rome II
I can't help but feel that this is going to be a bit of a disappointment. I've sort of lost faith in CA to recreate the masterpiece that was R:TW. I get the impression that it was something of a fluke. I mean, I love Napoleon and Empire but they really aren't nearly as good as RTW; it's almost as though CA just sort of stumbled upon the game and abandoned the formula straight away.
Anyway, hopefully I'll be proven wrong and I can have even more fun conquering the world as the Seleucid Empire. -
Re: Total War: Rome II
Bought Shogun II and wasn't that impressed tbh, only managed one play through whereas I have done countless campaigns on the other games. I have faith from Rome II, just hope the don't over complicate the political side of it. I'd like to have some challenge from a rival family but focusing on trying to avoid getting assassinated at home by rival families as well as trying to take Gaul and Carthage at the same time might be a little too much. Aside from that I hope once I complete the game I can do a campaign with another civilization, would love to be the Persians or Germanic tribes.
