I don't give them any presents unless they ask or hint towards something (for example - mum's been thinking about buying a camera for 5 years now... she turned 50, got her one because otherwise she would've thought about buying one for another 5 years haha). Same goes for me though, they don't get me presents unless I ask for something particular.

Of course I do. Wouldn't you feel a bit miffed if they stopped buying you presents?
Why on earth wouldn't they want presents from you? My mother always tells me not to bother, but if I didn't buy her anything you can be damned sure she'd be upset, and I wouldn't blame her.

Why wouldn't you? With the amount of things my parents have done for me, I'd feel selfish if I didn't get them anything one year. My dad says he isn't bothered but we always get him something, as I know that if we didn't he'd be disappointed really.

My mum will always remind us that it's dad's birthday soon and will ask who wants to buy what, and mum will alway write a convenient list of things to choose from that will be stuck up on one of the kitchen cupboards whenever her birthday comes around. Organised.

My parents do say they don't want it but I always end up getting something like a perfume

I don't... but reading this thread makes me feel bad! :p: I don't think my parents really care though; they always get a card and seem happy with that...

Neither my mother nor my father need a present on their birthday. They already have me, and I am by far the greatest gift a parent could ask for.

Besides, I always give my mum an extra load of washing on her birthday. She loves washing, and I am hardly the kind of person to deny my mother her greatest pleasure in life.

Oh come on people, very clearly sarcasm. Every year I buy my dad a selection of things... If over the year he mentions something he is interested in, I (or one of my siblings) put it on our list thingy at home and we all club together to buy 2 or 3 of those things.

My mum....vwell she has managed to lose/break/ mysteriously and magically transform any gift we get her into something else, so normally we buy her either wine or flowers (so she can't lose or break them) and hand her the receipt so she can easily exchange it.

    HAPPY?!

Of course I do. I always took "don't bother" as they didn't want me to spend too much money on them. But I always buy them a little something and a card. It's just a nice gesture. Everyone appreciates receiving a thoughtful gift.

I have always got my parents christmas, birthday and mothers/sometimes fathers day presents ever since I was about 13/14 and am now 21. I think its a little one sided to hope for presents and not return the favour. Anyone saying they don't is a bit selfish!

I don't buy them "girfts". I do however buy them gifts.

I dont, they say that the best gift I could give them is to go to a good uni and study so that I do well for myself in the future. But I bought something once or twice, but only when I know for sure what they want

Yep. My dad tends to get a new game/films/etc depending what I think he'll like. I spoil my mum rotten though, she deserves it after all she's done for me and my sisters.

I never used to when I was younger seeing as how the only money I had was what they'd given me. Usually my mum/dad would take me and my brother shopping and buy something which was on 'behalf' of us I suppose. Now I get my mum something, but never really my dad to be honest....

Yes. Always. Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Mothers day/Fathers day.

It completely breaks my bank though, as between Late September and December it is my Granddads, Moms, little sisters, big sisters, step moms, dad, step dads and boyfriends birthday and then I have christmas!

I do if I see something that I know they'll like, but I won't if I would be forced into the boring perfume / aftershave / generic dvd gifts. I'll give them a damn big hug though

I usually give them money unless they want something specific. I have a friend though who comes from quite a big family and all of them play an instrument of some sort. Their parents make them put on a 'concert' as their birthday present lmao
