Hey Guys;

Well, after analysing a thread I made about people and how they react to knowing gay/lesbian/bisexual people, it got me wondering about the staggering level of acceptance (good thing, not saying I hate homos considering I am one) lol. Anyway, so, back on topic.

Do you think by the end of the century, homophobia will be eradicated in Britain in almost its entirety (or 99%+) or do you think it will be earlier?

Never. Same with racism, sexism, ageism and increasingly "lookism".

Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc will never be eradicated anywhere. People may learn to be more accepting over time however it is not a switch we can change by law for example. It is an attitude engraved in some people's minds and no matter what there will always be a group of ignorant people spreading such hate.

Sad fact of life.

BUT I do believe such diversity will be more embraced and less frowned upon by that time.

It will never be eradicated but it will be reduced significantly. We have taken huge steps in the right direction in the last 50 years and this will continue to be the case. I am extremely glad I live in a society like ours where homosexuality is now widely accepted by the majority of people.

As above, I don't think any '-ism' will ever be eradicated, such social phenomena go in phases. Just look at how accepted various sexualities were in Ancient Greece and Rome. Social progress isn't a linear thing.

However, with that said, I am sure it will be more akin to racism. It will still be around, but for the most part not a view openly held by many.

i don't think it ever will - people may become more liberal but like others said, i reckon that racism, sexism, homophobia etc will all still be prevelant even 100 years from now. it will probably be something that isn't PC like racism now, but a view still held by many.

I would say Yes, even though my initial reaction was 'no chance'

I suddenly realised that it was only 50 years ago that racism, for example, was official and pretty much the norm - I mean, homophobia was pretty much the same.

In 50 years we've arrived at a society which, let's be honest, is a damn sight more tolerant than the one before. Granted, there are still racists and homophobes, but considering everything nowadays seems to develop at an exponential, non-linear rate, (technology for instance) I'd like to think that in twice the time period we should be pretty much homophobe free.

However I think there will be things to replace it though - as each prejudice dies another will grow again to replace it, like some kind of scaly judgmental hydra of doom.

Don't think so. They'll always be ignorant a***holes. It mightn't be as widespread or commonplace as it is today, but it'll still exist.

There will still be a minority who will discriminate; you don't see racism or sexism, for example, fully eradicated at present and that's because people will always have their own opinions or look for a way to put others down: life.

Will it be eradicated? simple answer it is highly doubtful, it is not a disease with a magic bullet 'cure' it is a frame of mind and as to whether or not people become more accepting of whats different i personally say no...
