Messed up 2nd year. Don't know what to do.
Let me quickly explain the situation.

My first year I averages a 64. All my coursework was 1sts except for a couple, my exams were pretty lazy.

Then came second year. This year I really struggled due to something of a personal nature. I missed 90% of classes and lectures. I was advised to submit extenuating circumstances, which I did.

I now have received my grades and I averaged a 47. I have emailed the university registry and my course director and been told slightly contradictory information. First person said all they could say was my extenuating circumstances were 'considered', the second said they had been accepted and should I do well next year they 'may' review my overall degree.

I really hoped to be able to retake some exams and boost my grade up before returning to university for my last year. I'm not sure if I should be seeking advice for how I can best go forward or already be looking for advice 'So I got a 2.2 at university', since a 2.1 looks incredibly unlikely now.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

What's the weighting on your degree?

It's not impossible, I got 50 in my first 2 years and got a 2:1 by achieving 67 in my final year.

Yes it all depends on the weighting. Often the final year of the degree gives you a great chance to pull back. You need to do the calculations as to what marks you will need to average 60 (or 58+ if extenuating circumstances will allow for this ) . The first year shows that you have the potential to do well if you apply yourself, so I suggest that you do this in your final yr !

University's are allowed to award a candidate a higher classification if their final year is good. The classification cannot exceed 1 grade though. For example if you got a 2:2 in your 2nd year and a 2:1 for your final year the university can award you a 2:1. Likewise a 2:1 in your 2nd year and a 1st in your 3rd will allow you to receive a 1st. Each university has specific criteria though. Eg. you must pass a certain number of modules at a certain grade etc.

If you get a 2:2 in your 2nd year there is no chance of being awarded a 1st because it is above 1 classification grade even if you get a 1st for your final year!

Your first year grades do not count towards your overall classification. Your 2nd year grade is a 3rd.

    70+ = 1st
    60-69 = 2:1
    50-59 = 2:2
    below 50 = 3rd

Make sure you know your situation early. I'm sorry but a 2:2 these days won't get you anywhere except retail management programmes. I have a 2:1 and am a part-qualified accountant & I'm finding it difficult!

Uni students really have no idea what they're in for when they graduate. It is a real struggle in the current job market.

66 is doable. You were close to it in the first year
