work experience for gap year

I am considering a gap year and wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of what type of work experience i should do that relates to my university course. i plan to take Arabic and middle eastern studies OR Arabic and linguistics.

Cambridge don't offer Arabic and Linguistics, unless you're planning to switch degrees halfway by doing Part I AMES and Part II Linguistics, in which case you shouldn't tell them about your plans - they want to admit you as a full on AMES student.

As joyie said, teaching could be good. A post as an english language teaching assistant would be very useful.
