How likely is it that I will get an adjustment place?
Hi. So basically I have applied to do Philosophy, Politics and Economics and I accepted an offer from UEA for ABB as my firm choice and put an offer from Exeter for Philosophy and Political Economy as my insurance because it's not my ideal choice for a course.

After some recent developments with some very successful results in January (All above 90%) It seems that I will be getting anything between three A's and three A*'s. If I get these results then I don't think I could go to UEA and feel that I'm doing the best thing for my future. In an ideal world I'd like to go to Warwick or go to Exeter to do PPE instead of this weird variation that I've put as my insurance. Is it likely that I will be able to get a good place on adjustment or is it just fools hope?

Having a gap year seems to be something I should consider but I just don't know what I will do for a year. I just want to go to university and get on with my life. I don't have enough money to travel or anything yet or even anyone to go travelling with. I guess if I took a gap year I would probably have about £2000 if there are any suggestions on things I could do with that.

Any advise would be great, I really want to go to the best uni I can get into but I don't want to waste a year of my life.

Hmm, I definitely think you should phone up unis and explain your situation. Admittedly I don't know if these are just rumours, but I've read of people in similar positions who have been accepted into courses by some very good unis because of their exceptional results (which when they made their choices were perhaps not expected). I would say do this first, then if there is absolutely no chance, I suppose you would have to consider other options after that. From experience though I sadly don't have any specific information.

Adjustment carries an overall low chance (a couple of years ago it was 1 in 11, it may have gone up slightly since) ... but it's unclear how the places are distributed between various universities and courses.

However, Adjustment is a no lose situation, so if you tried it and were unsuccessful, you'd still have your firm and could take a gap year if you preferred.

Thanks for the info. I've already rang up Exeter and Warwick. Warwick said that they can't tell me anything till after results day and Exeter said that there is a chance but it's a very popular course. They also said that the fact that I already have an offer from them from another course will be beneficial to me.

Fingers crossed it works out and I get lucky with adjustment.
