    Pre-reg 2012/13
Anyone else starting pre-reg soon? I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread to discuss our training and see how everyone's getting on.

(official) degree results came out last week for me, and I got a degree classification higher than I thought I would (guess the nasty ass days of semester 1 during 4th year paid off ). I start on the 30th this month I believe, asked my line manager if I should do any reading before hand and she told me chill, so chilling I shall do

Ooh when do you get them? Good luck! I got mine almost a month ago, don't know how you've coped with waiting this long.

30th of July in a hospital near Glasgow, what about you?

Where are you doing yours? I met my tutor for the first time yesterday and he said something similar Suppose we might as well enjoy the break cos it'll be hard work once we start. I think I might just skim the BNF and some notes in a couple of weeks to get my brain working again.

Thanks! I get them on friday when comparing it to other unis, I can't believe we have had to wait so long!

I start on the 16th July at a hospital in Surrey! Might start my revision of drugs tomorrow...

Im doing mine in Romford, Essex. I'll probably start quickly going over some 4th year practice notes, a quick skim of a few NICE guidelines and perhaps 2/3 chapters from a clinical text book...

I start mine on the 30th at a London hospital, I wasn't planning on doing any revision but I found out yesterday I have to do a viva next Tuesday. However it does mean that I have (unofficially) passed and will be starting pre-reg. I find out my actual classification after my viva on Tuesday.

Has anyone else been working during their break?

Edit: P.S good luck to anyone else waiting for results

Lucky you , which uni was that? I suppose I should be grateful for the chance to go up a class but its hard to appreciate being sent back to revision mode

Is that hospital too? That sounds like quite a lot, I probably won't do that much. Mainly cos I don't know where to start.

Good luck for Tuesday But hey, at least you've passed. We got rid of vivas last year too but I don't think it worked in anyone's favour, as far as I know you couldn't get bumped up. Didn't affect me but my friend must have been about 1% off a distinction.

Working as in uni work or going to work? Either way, I haven't.

Thanks, I meant going to work (I have done a few shifts). Congrats on passing anyway.

What's the point in a viva if you can't get bumped up?

Thanks Oh no, you know how some unis will give a first if you get 69%ish without an oral exam? Our uni doesn't do that but they also don't do the oral exam so even if you're only a tiny bit below the cut-off you just get what you get. I don't think I've explained that very well.

Just checked out my rotation, Ill spend a few weeks doing clinical trials/ GCP stuff. Looking forward to that actually, as I've snooped around the MHRA before, and an a career with the MHRA / in pharmacovigilance is one of my possible careers routes that Im considering and find quite intriguing

Ah nice Does your hospital do a lot of trials? I'm a bit worried about having to do the audit....hopefully it won't be too hard!

BTW for students who don't have a pre-reg place for 2012 or have been keen to get a hospital place, there are 2 hospital places available at:

    Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

    Check pharmalife for more details!

    What do you mean, disillusioned?

Have you been given your rotation already? Mine hasn't been made up yet.
