Converting to Islam because you hate Bush and Obama

I know several people who have done this and was wondering what everyone thought? Lauren Booth - Tony Blair's insane sister-in-law - is a famous example. George Galloway is probably a secret Muslim as well. It seems logically flawed to me. Has Islam become a "protest religion"?

I dont think it is because of that. It's because Islam has been main focus for the media since 9/11.

"What sort of woman freely converts to a religion which supports the oppression, torment and murder of thousands of Christians, homosexuals and spirited women, worldwide, every year? The sort of woman who writes love letters to a serial killer, I reckon." ~ Julie Burchill on Lauren Booth

Ridiculous thinking, yet unfortunately not unthinkable. I'm not sure whether such people can even be considered "converted" (well, I'm sure they shouldn't). That's bad for those people and for Islam itself.

What a dumb thread.

Why on earth would you do that because you hate Bush and Obama? :lolwut:
I don't think that is exactly how it works...

What a ****ty reason to convert to Islam.

Convert because you believe the philosophy, not because of some misguided hate.
Meh i get what your saying and sort of agree. It isn't a new thing though, a lot of the time especially during periods of war groups rise up with complete polar opposite views to the government and basically win support by criticizing everything they do. In this case it happens to be Islamic groups, 40 years ago it was the hippies.

Also you have to look at the people who do this, a lot of the time they are people who enjoy being on the outside of society who feel let down by the world and are looking to give their life meaning. Basically they are ticking time bombs, if Islam wasn't around people like Galloway would still be just as anti-government. But the conclusion that for some it has become a protest religion is a fair one.
Converting to a religion because you dislike some politicans?

Clearly these people are just morons.
I clicked on here intending to cite Lauren Booth and George Galloway as examples, but trust you to beat me to it.

Yes, but that's a big charge which has no basis, no proof whatsoever. It's like saying you're only an Atheist because of the catholic child abuse scandal.
You're not really a Muslim if the only thing that makes you one is 'hatred of Bush and Obama'.

And no, the only people I'm know who've converted to Islam did so because they believed in Islam. It's pretty simple really, and the desire to subvert interest in Islam as a religion into Islam as a political dogma is obvious trolling.
To my knowledge George Galloway has never claimed to be a Muslim. How he is an example of 'people converting to Islam out of a particular political dogma' is beyond me. Do cite your resources.

What else have you got? I bet Obama is a Muslim too right? That dirty rotten Kenyan-socialist-muslim *******

Making the claim that George Galloway is an observant Muslim because of his political advocacies is as thick as stating that Michelle Bachmann is a convert to Judaism to screw over the left wing  I suspected better of you. Usually your political discourse has at least coherent in the past. This time round, you've flown off the handle in a bid to desperately oppose anyone deemed an 'enemy to Israel'. Thank God you don't post as much as you used to. The last thing we need is more nutters like you.

And before you inevitably link me to an article from either the Daily Mail or Telegraph citing that he had a 'secret conversion' 10 years ago, he has categorically denied it, as evidenced in the following article.

How can you be a "secret muslim"?

To be a muslim you must perform the 5 pillars of Islam:

1. The Shahadah (the statement of belief)
2. Salah (5 times a day)
3. Zakah (Charity)
4. Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)
5. Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan)

Islam is a religion of practice as much as belief. So it's VERY hard to be a secret muslim without SOMEBODY realising...

I don't know what Galloway is.

Straw man. I've never claimed this and I hate people who do.

Again, Galloway is a very vague figure. His appeals to the Muslim masses through election campaign rhetoric such as 'God knows who is a Muslim and who is not' certainly betray that he is not as Catholic as he makes himself out to be. The rest of your bile is just the usual strawmanning I expect from you.

According to that logic... well, actually there isn't any logic in what you said.
