Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?What were Gladstone and Disraeli's most important decisions?(Original post by The Dark Lord)
If we're talking about all time influence, it has to be either Gladstone or Disraeli. Of the post war leaders Thatcher in her second term was the most influential leader, not her first term, though. -
Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?fast worker too. Nationalised industries and set up the welfare state quicker than current politicians seem to be able to make the slightest decision.(Original post by Spaz Man)
She's probably second to Clement Atlee who set up the welfare state which has defined Britain for the last 70 years. -
Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?She divides opinion, I think its something like 60:40 positive:negative opinion of her, so, haha, yeah, well, she doesn't divide it really.(Original post by Zenzic)
Most Influential? No. Most Hated? Yes
Blair is without doubt the most hated, the right hate him beacuse he is labour and the left hate him because of his wars. -
Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?
Nope, more like the most hated conservative MP at her time. Now it is David Cameroon
isn't it funny that every time a conservative MP becomes the Prime Minister he or she becomes the most hated figure within a short period of time but when a labour MP becomes PM it is the opposite
is it bad luck or are conservative just so evil?
I do wonder sometimes, why do people vote conservatives knowing their track record?! it is mind bogglingLast edited by kidomo; 03-07-2012 at 00:28. -

Well, there was this fellow named Churchill....... -
Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?Obviously because the Conservatives are always elected into power by the public in order to carry out the difficult and unpopular task of cleaning up the terrible mess the previous Labour government has left the country in.(Original post by kidomo)

why do conservative get themself hated every time they're in office!? unlike labour?

Re: Was Margaret Thatcher the most influential PM?And east of Cardiff...(Original post by imoore83)
Only those South of Sheffield could say good things about Thatcher i'd imagine. Hitler was pretty influential too but it didn't make him a good guy worthy of praise.
