Nope, more like the most hated conservative MP at her time. Now it is David Cameroon:sigh: isn't it funny that every time a conservative MP becomes the Prime Minister he or she becomes the most hated figure within a short period of time but when a labour MP becomes PM it is the opposite:lol: is it bad luck or are conservative just so evil?

Erm, I thought a government's job was to establish stability with finances not pander to everyone and magically spawn in anything the pubic asks for.

Only if you have an increadibly warped an biased perception of reality.

Firslty, you have confined your whole basis of the two party history and public perception by finding us two MP's within 20-30 years. its either disingenuous that you leave out John Major or you are knowledgable.

Winston Chruchill is by far the most popular PM with the public, a Tory, might I add.

I think you are also forgetting the MASSIVE HATE against Tony Blair, literally everyone hates him, it doesn't matter where you are from in the spectrum aside from the Radical Centre, they all hate him. And don't you remember Brown? Yeah that guy that most people thought was an
    incompitent sly idiot too.

Unfortunately for your perceptions, most of the country doesn't hate cameron, though it is very divided, and Thather in fact has an overall positive public opinion towards her, the same can't be said for blair and brown.

I do wonder sometimes, why do people vote conservatives knowing their track record?! it is mind boggling
Nice to see your pulling statistics out your *** like a typical tabloid reader. Up until this year's budget David Cameron has fared very well in opinion polls and for most of his term he's had more people approving him than disapproving. Even now he's still way more popular than Gordon Brown ever was. Go and look at websites like http://ukpollingreport.co.uk for more information about opinion polls.

The problem with the Conservatives is that they are awful at PR/spin and therefore get slaughtered by the media. This in turn means that droolers like yourself who don't bother to read balanced news sources or fact check get brainwashed into thinking the current government is 'the worst one ever' when its doing a reasonable job considering the circumstances.

It depends what you mean by influential? Influential connotes positivity on her part. She certainly revolutionised British politics, Labour didn't go back on her fundamental policies. I think she's definitely an influential and inspirational figure for many people, not just in terms of politics and ideology, but her life story and background. I certainly admire her, and if that goes against the prevailing wind of opinion then so be it.

Most influential? Tony Blair of course. Boy, that man knew how to get what he wanted.

Whether or not that was a good thing I'll leave up to you.
    Believe me, it wasn't

No, I'd say the Attlee and Lloyd George Governments were more influential generally.

Post war. I think it is a tie between Clement Atlee and Thatcher. Tony Blair is a good candidate as well.

She's probably second to Clement Atlee who set up the welfare state which has defined Britain for the last 70 years.

The first thing that came into my mind when I saw this was the Mandelson quote "We're all thatcherites now."

Personally, I think Attlee, simply because of the NHS and the welfare state, most of which has been unchanged since he left office.

In terms of influence, I would personally go for Edward Heath. By taking us into Europe, he not only created huge problems for Thatcher and Major, not to mention soul searching from Harold Wilson, but divided the country over the issue. Even now, it is creating rifts in the Conservative party and to a much smaller extent in Labour.
