Absolutely. Don't let the fact that you got a 1st cloud your options and feel like you've got to carry on. Do what you think will most make you happy. You only live once.

mm maybe you could at least give it a go, I mean, architecture courses are, what, 6 years? it would be a shame to let that go to waste. but, on the other hand, if you know deep down you want something else more then you've gotta have the balls (ovaries?) to go for that instead.

I take it you mean you've got your Part 1? In which case, you are three years into a long road which can go off in many directions. Ignore people saying stick at it because you've started, and moreover, ignore anyone saying to go and work in the Middle East. If you are feeling unsure about the profession at the moment, you are going to feel totally vacuous if you end up working on some turd project for someone like Gensler or AEDAS in Dubai. The house of cards will come crashing down there even faster very soon anyway...

Perhaps you need to try getting away from the work you've been doing and look at related fields. One of the most satisfying things I did after my Part 1 was spending a couple of months refurbing a kitchen and bathroom. Nothing complicated, very simple spec, but it was great actually getting hands on, ripping things out, sawing timber, assembling units, painting, tiling, etc. It is quite a primitive way of clearing your head, whilst at the same time helping you realise a bit more what your degree should be about (not conceptualising, but actually making and doing). So that's one idea - get hands on, get on site maybe (I know easier said than done in most circumstances).

you could always take a year off and think about it carefully first. I wouldn't make up my mind so quickly if you're having doubts. it may just be that you're sick of education. the real world is far different, and it might be something you enjoy.

on the other hand, i don't think it's a shame for you to let go of architecture at this stage if you really don't want to. having a first class degree in architecture opens up other doors for you. it's a well respected degree.

Thanks guy for your responses and advice, it means much to me.

Yes I just graduated Part 1. I am in the process of looking for a year out placement, but I am uncertain of doing part 2, perhaps time will tell, I have the year to think about it. But yeh, you only live once, thats right..

    Thanks guys.

I mean one reason, is that I have this tiny underlying thing at the back of my head telling meI should of taken a maths degree, and its been at it since god knows when, I guess if i didn't take architecture I would've taken maths.
I did maths and further maths at alevel, I guess I could've done something with that, but I wanted a creative degree, and I have to say it is such a hard and long tiring degree, but I did have fun at times. Its confusing.

oooh! I thought you finished it the whole degree:lol:

then in that case, I'd suggest you take a gap year or something or change course

BOLD: That would the best option for you IMO maybe you will like it

That's a tough one. But since you have a year to think about I'd suggest you don't rush into making rash decisions and instead take your time and if all point to maths, then ask for course change to do a maths degree

No basically, I have finished the degree. The process of becoming an architect requires one year of work experience than continuing to do Masters of architecture which is 2 years. So I have the undergraduate degree right now. hope that makes sense

I guess I just have to wait, and keep thinknig. Afterall restarting a new degree would be the £9000 tuition fee kicking into place. Sigh.
    Thanks.

    Re: Feel like quitting architecture?
What job would you do if you got a Maths degree, I mean its all very well spending your life in education but at some point you need to have some idea of what you want to do in the world of work. Maybe your just a bit hesistant after so long in education as the change in lifestyle might look a bit daunting. Perhaps give Architecture or related field a go as if it doesn't work out it might make things clearer and if it does work out you might just realise that your not that interested in Maths after all, that you were just a bit uneasy about the change. After all a first is pretty good going so you must have had quite an interest in Architecture even if it was more academic than practical. Perhaps it is the practical side that is putting wind up you?

dont do part two if your hearts not in it or if you have doubts. think carefully and dont be afraid to follow your gut instinct. i have many friends who have gone on to earn more and be happier in other careers after part 1

Don't you think you might want to actually have some practical experience working in architecture before deciding you don't like it and throwing the towel in?
