Re: Repeal of V352 (Great Repeal Act)
I think that we would end up in an odd position. The reset was a failure, and I argued against it at the time - but a re-introduction would be madness. I also think that we're far enough along the line that we once again do have our own system of laws (the tax and welfare system muahaha, legalised drugs, legalised prostitution, etc. etc. etc.) and that we're once again in a pretty balanced position. Trying to retrospectively fit 5 years of old legislation much of which has been superseded and merged into better Acts is madness.

Re: Repeal of V352 (Great Repeal Act)Excellent post, i agree 100%.(Original post by Metrobeans)
If there was ever an idea crazier than repealing 5 years worth of legislation, it's re-introducing 5 years worth of old legislation en-masse! I think there are others ways of achieving this which cause less pain and would provide us with an opportunity to create more activity and add something new.
I'm posting from my phone and I'll go into more details on Wednesday, but how about, once a week, we post an old law that was repealed, debate it and then offer MPs and parties the opportunity to table amendments. It allows us to put only the laws we want back onto the statute and allows the MHoC of today to add something new. I'll go into more detail on Wednesday, but I think it's something to consider.

Re: M104 - Repeal of V352 (Great Repeal Act) MotionI can see why this could be beneficial, and wouldn't be disappointed if it happened, but I think actually the Great Repeal was a good thing to do and I wouldn't like it done away with, it happened before my time, but I think it would have been a lot harder for me to "break into" the MHoC if it had not been in place. Having so many laws stretching so far back makes things rather complicated for new members and even current ones, hell, even I find it hard enough as it is sometimes working out the state of the law on certain issues in the TSR realm, especially regarding economic matters, I think if you added 350 extra bills to that it would be even harder, plus it would lead to some "doubling up" of certain bills and could also lead to a vast range of inconsistencies between pre-repeal and post-repeal bills (the latter of which were written on the presumption that previous bills no longer exist and thus do not need to be factored into the new legislation).
And I actually wouldn't mind if we did a whole new repeal bill in a couple of years or so down the line from now. The MHoC is effectively a game, right? And when I play computer games, I love replaying an old game completely from scratch all over again; to rediscover old loves of mine (I've lost count of the number of times I've done that with GTA VC and GTA SA); and I think that'd be nice experience on here too. -

This will only work if the Libertarians are banned from putting in one of their ridiculous PAA esque 'bills'.
Also, why does the Government not simply repeal the act? A motion is a bit pointless is it not?Last edited by Thunder and Jazz; 05-07-2012 at 23:56. -
Re: M104 - Repeal of V352 (Great Repeal Act) MotionI agree with you on PAA. With regards to motions, the Government uses them to gauge support before going into the work of a Bill.(Original post by Thunder and Jazz)
