    Is this gumtree ad genuine?
    I applied for this job
    http://www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/3-days...work/104759314

they have accepted me but I am worried because I cannot find any details of the company in google or anywhere else. They say they are a ground based media company so they have no website.

They gave me the details of the director and the producer, and the story of the film and my role etc etc. I cannot find any search result for the film but I can see the directors and producers page.

I am new to gumtree so I don't know if these kind of ads are fake or not. any help would be appreciated.

this is a short section of one of the emails
"We have received your request for the position of a background artist for the pre-production movie: Wood Evil(C18).

We are a media company subsidiary that supplies the media industry with extras/actors/models and have done so since 2005.

We are based in London, located within the film studios campus at the newly revitalised Holland St, Kensington, London W8 4LT.

We pride ourselves on a reliable organised unit that provides a first class service to our contractors. We cannot afford to let our clients down through poor candidates. That’s why we ask for reliability more than experience. Most projects are non speaking based roles. If you are asked to play a speaking part you will be paid an extra considerable amount, accordingly."

If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is.

Also I'd stay away from Gumtree with regards to jobs.

I was asked for my email, photo and phone. I just realised I could have made a mistake or something. I am skint and jobless, I dont think they will get anything from me if they scammed me.

I hope this ad is genuine though. I will email them asking for more detail about their company.

More email -- also they sent me the whole plot synopsis. Do extras really need to know it?

We currently have openings for the pre-production horror suspense Film by Juan Jose Campanella and produced by Larry H. Parr to be filmed in late July (screen test version) within the location of Scotland/UK.

The pre-production will be catered for the European market and screen tested within the UK."

I have just been accepted for this too, and was wondering the same. Let me know if you find out more. Are you from Scotland or live else where?

I'm from Plymouth and they say they are going to pay for my travel expense if it is below £150.

The director won an oscar for best foreign language film in 2009, I think. Looking at IMDB, his next release is an animation called foosball. No sign of this movie "Wood Evil".

unless it is a secret film. But a director who won oscar must surely have some publicity of his upcoming films. I am sceptical about this ad but I really wish it was real.

Hm, it looks really cool and I'm tempted to apply probably too good to be true though

    Hi

I too recently applied for a job through Gumtree. All I can say is that 90% of the jobs advertised posted on that website are fake and scams aimed at obtaining your personal data and probably to be used for criminal activities.

For the job that I applied for, I received a strange email asking me to pay £50 for a CBR check before attending the interview. This involved me going to an off licence shop paying £50 to obtain a voucher and emailing the voucher code details to the so called company. The company then redeems the money into its accounts.

Luckily for I too used a search engine to Google the company’s details and telephone number, what I came across was the exact email copy on a forum where other jobseekers that have been coned by the same company complaining. So all I can say is that stay away from any job that asks you send in any form of payment for anything whether it is for hotel accommodation, CBR checks etc. As no real employer would ask for money from perspective recruits before even meeting them in person.

I have also been accepted to take part in the filming. I am concerned that I cannot find any information about the company or film and even more so now that they want money from us (£60) Is anyone going to go ahead with it?

They didn't lie about their location. They said they just moved to new offices in Kensington which after a quick search is in Middlesex.

Like geeksandtherest said "no real employer would ask for money from perspective recruits before even meeting them in person."

They really spent some time on those emails. A really sophisticated scam compared to those hotmail ones. I guess it's a good idea to stay away from it and from gumtree jobs from now on. Another internet lesson learnt.

It is definitely a scam. No legitimate job asks you to pay them money up front.

    Hi guys.

I registered just to post in this thread, as it's the only result for "wood evil movie" on google that seems relevant.

Up until the most recent email asking for a £60 security deposit, I was convinced it wasn't a scam, it seems far too professional, but I'm having my doubts after seeing that the most recent email was routed through a free email provider (gmx.com) which no large media business would dream of doing.

I was counting on the funds from this to fix up my car, now it seems I may have to sell it as I can't trust these people now.

If it was genuine, I'd have no problem paying the £60 deposit on the day of arrival, but for them to ask for a deposit this early? Scam.

I've just joined to post this also, after doing a search for info on the company.

I'm gutted too that it doesn't look genuine- and it is pretty sophisticated!

What raised my suspicions (other than the deposit), was the lack of phone numbers or website- and I initially forgot to put my phone number etc on my application- and they never asked for it again, even though they are supposed to call me! So they slipped up there!

Plus the original advert did look dodgy- but I guess everyone is looking for a good opportunity, and is willing to overlook certain things.

Thanks to the original poster, for starting this thread.

I wonder how many people have been conned

Yeah he is a highly regarded director (don't know about the producer, not on imdb that I can find). And why would he be doing a generic zombie film?! They should have said someone like Guy Ritchie was doing it because that would have been more realistic!

    Oh well. Scum bags.

I certainly overlooked the fact that they didn't have a company name and contact number out of my excitement.

I cant believe Gumtree allows that sort of false advertisement. I really thought it was a more reliable site than that.
