Will my parents debt affect my student loans?
Hi, I have just realised that I'm going to be really stuck for money next year because I have to pay for my accommodation with my maintenance loan which will leave me with nothing because I am not entitled to a grant because of my household income.

The problem is that even though my household income is 40 grand a year, my parents are in a lot of debt which means that they won't be able to afford to support me.

Is there anyway that student fiance will take this into account? can I appeal or something?

    Any help would be great

I'd say ring them up and explain the situation

Absolutely not, they don't care about debts or other household expenditures.

Otherwise anyone could avoid the requirement to have a household income below a certain level by just having their parents taking out a huge loan just before the assessment and paying it back once they have their award.

Nope, it's based on household income, unless you want to wait until you are over 25.

The clue is on the direct.gov.uk site where they list the amounts you can get based on household income not above a certain amount and no other criterion.
