Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)
2006 MacBook
1.83GHz processor
2GB ram
120GB hard drive
Virtual PC installed
Has been upgraded to snow leopard
Will the fact it has been upgraded to snow leopard make it slow as I know this is the case with other older macs.

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)Depends what you want to do with it. Snow Leopard needs only 1 Gb of RAM and a >1.6 GHz processor to work well, so you should be fine. 120 Gb HDD is a bit small these days though - but that is not what you asked.(Original post by anthonyfl)

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)The same can be said of all the Windows machines running crappy pentium processors. Meeting the minimum requirements does not equate to running well, especially by today's standards.(Original post by Lord of the Flies)

£250 included is MS office, photoshop and as I said virtual PC.(Original post by Gofre)
Yes, just as any six year old computer will be. Early generation Core 2 Duo processor and low RAM won't make for a very enjoyable experience.
How much are they asking for it?
But i thought there were many macs that old that aren't slow?

All I want to do is use the Internet, write essays, and occasionally use photoshop(Original post by Lord of the Flies)

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)They will run fine, my godfather still has a functioning PowerMac G4 Cube from over a decade ago for example. However not being slow doesn't necessarily equate to being an enjoyable computer to use. It will still significantly lag behind (Excuse the pun) anything made in the last two years.(Original post by anthonyfl)

It says it has a new hard drive and memory, will that make a difference?(Original post by Lord of the Flies)

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)Not really, RAM is more associated with how much work a computer can do at a time, not how well it does that work, which is the processor's job.(Original post by anthonyfl)

So would you say a laptop with 1GB ram and a 2GHz processor would be better than 2GB ram and a 1.83 GHz processor?(Original post by Gofre)

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)It will load yes - but it will probably crash once you start editing photos / using complex tools. Also Virtual PC is very consuming, so all in all I wouldn't recommend buying this. You can probably find better deals on eBay.(Original post by anthonyfl)
And photoshop is pre installed so it must work yeah? It'll just be very slow I suppose

Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)It's all a case of balance, it depends on what you'll be doing, what class of processor it is, how fast the RAM is, etc. I would not want recommend buying either of those computers.(Original post by anthonyfl)

I really would recommend rather than going for a used MacBook that is this old, saving up another £100 and just buying a decent Windows machine. For £350 you can get a laptop with a Sandybridge i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive that will perform better than anything that old. Alternatively, depending on how much money you have to spend, I'm selling my MacBook Pro from January last year for £450. PM me if you're interested. -
Re: Will this MacBook be slow? (spec included)My point was exactly this - no one ever said he needed more to use office programmes...(Original post by matt2k8)
Depending on how heavy this photoshop usage is, you should be absolutely fine. Despite what earlier posters would like you to believe, you don't need 4gb of RAM and a quad core to browse the internet/ use office programs.
