    Lump behind ear...
Before anyone says anything- I am planning to go to the doctors on Thursday if this hasn't gone down.

Basically, I noticed last night that I have a hard, fixed lump at the base of my ear, just above my jaw. It kind of feels like a small marble.

I daren't read up a lot about it on the internet because I don't want to scare myself! However, from what I have seen, this sort of thing is usually due to infection. Of course, the hypochondriac side of me is equating this lump with cancer.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had a similar sort of thing before? What did it turn out to be?

Just wait for the doctors, there's little point in asking the student forums if you're too scared to do a quick search on the internet.

ive had it before and reccurs. its just a lymph node, might be you've had a cold recently or a localised infection. i just got some antibiotics and it went down quickly

    Probably just a lymph node.

I used to get colds all the time when I was younger and now I can usually feel my lymph nodes even when I'm perfectly fine... I can just about make out the one behind my ear. Obviously, the doctor will be able to confirm this for you so it is vital you still go to your appointment.

It's good that you are going to the doctors straight away. Even if it starts to disappear, still go and see whats up. You can never be too sure that its gone. I know of cases where things like this have ended up badly. It's probably nothing.

I've had this a couple of times and it's always gone away on its own. Of course you should still see a doctor just to make sure, but don't worry because it's probably nothing serious.

Thanks for the advise, guys. I went to my GP and he found two more swollen lymph nodes along my neck. Booked in for a blood test next week so fingers and toes crossed that everything is okay!

Don't worry the blood test is probably just a precaution; good luck I hope it goes well for you!

I can always feel the lymph node under my chin, but it's meant to be normal.

I had a few lumps behind my ear when I was younger, but they were just really large spots. VERY satisfying to pop, they're usually really loaded with pus

See a GP if you want, but daily face washing including behind your ears (no matter how cliche that sounds) with soap will stop them popping up. Or you can cultivate them and enjoy those spot-popping sensations :sogood:

....maybe I've got a bit carried away..... :p:

Sounds like an swollen lymph node, possibly from an infection.

Hi, what did it turn out to be? I have recently noticed something similar to what you describe, it's on the back of my right ear. It's slightly sore to touch. I have already been to the doctors recently about something else so don't want to go back immediately in case they think I'm a hypochondriac!
