Re: First day of uni...Moved in, met a couple of my flat mates by knocking on doors and then spent the afternoon in my halls of residence bar. In the evening I went to the union with everyone else for a welcome party.

Re: First day of uni...
i shall sit in the kitchen holding a wooden spoon with a plate of cupcakes placed in front of me saying nothing to no one.
Then if/when someone goes to take a cupcake i will strike their hand with the wooden spoon and say,
'NO! my cupcakes! if you take my things you'll get the spoon again!'
Thus ensuring they know from the start that it is NOT okay to 'borrow' my food.

Probably do exactly the same as i did when i moved into barracks, knock on doors say hi and see who wants to go for a drink. -
Would be funny if you did do that lol(Original post by cid)

Oh no!! Was you sick everywhere or something???(Original post by Cll_ws)
If you're nervous, drinking excessively before you've even met any of your flat mates won't help. I found that out the hard way

Re: First day of uni...Seeing as you've been in the forces why not zipline through their window, 'neutralise' their stuffed toys and then invite them for that drink?(Original post by cid)

Re: First day of uni...
Moved in. Awkwardly met my flatmates. Cooked a horrendously incompetent meal. Later we went to the pub and made horrendously awkward conversation.
On the other hand, I'm living with those people next year and in the end we became pretty good friends! You'll probably end up drinking with your flatmates and desperately attempting not to do anything weird. -
Re: First day of uni...Haha, nah. That wasn't until the morning after! The one and only time I was sick during first year actually.(Original post by knight9434)

I was just already really drunk when my first flat mate got there, I was first there originally. She came out of her room crying as her family had just left and I just didn't know how to handle the situation, I was nervous enough without that!
We then went and met 3 of her friends from home who lived in the same building. So I was there, incredibly drunk, with 4 people i'd known for about half an hour who all knew eachother already. And not drunk in a good way so that I was chatty and happy, I was concentrating bloody hard to make sure my eyes didn't roll back into my head!
I don't remember past a certain point, but I learnt that I just got up and left the kitchen and collapsed in the hallway. And one of them took me back to my room
I felt too ashamed to even face them in the morning! But I did, they saw the funny side I guess. They more made fun of me for the fact that they only saw me drink about 3 cans before I passed out, obviously they didn't see everything I drank beforehand in a stupid attempt to calm my nerves! haha
So that was my first impression! -
Aha oh no!! Least they saw the funny side lol but that must have been so embarrassing for you! Good story though lol(Original post by Cll_ws)

Re: First day of uni...
Being first in my flat I was tempted to fix up some sort of prank for when the next flat mate came, although it's hard when you don't know when they're coming.
I remember being really tempted to just splatter tomato ketchup on the corner of the kitchen table and on the floor. And then lie face down on the floor and wait for somebody to come in
But then I thought that it would be best to leave that kind of stuff for later, when they're not forming their first impressions, I wouldn't like to come across as a freak on the first day! haha. Plus their parents would of been there.
