Hello Madders

well I haven't been to many places in America - I've been to New York City, and we drove through a part of New Jersey on the way to the airport - but I love the patriotism and I wish people in the UK were a bit more proud of where we're from - the closest I've seen is us in Wales on St. David's Day but when I see families in America with the flags out all the time, and all the kids are so proud to sing the national anthem, I wish we had that!

I've been to NYC too. My favorite thing was walking up the steps of the Statue of Liberty. That was so awesome!!!
I've also been to the Niagara Falls which are spectacular. New Jersey is beautiful in the Fall.
Next time you visit the USA, you might be interested in the Grand Canyon in Arizona? It is beautiful, and AZ also is an interesting place to study Native American history, if you are interested.
Yes the unity of Americans during the Fourth of July is awesome!!!
It is a good feeling to be a part a country where people put aside differences and celebrate freedom together. So you have been to the USA during Independence Day before? It is a fun time to visit!!!

Re: Americans in the UKI think we are very patriotic, just the PC police come out when we have Union Jacks hanging out of our windows claiming 'racist'.(Original post by madders94)
Thanks

I'm very patriotic at heart, proud to be British, but don't feel the need to go singing and dancing about it in the street. Modesty is one of our best traits.
Dare I say the 4th of July is now an important date for other, physics related, reasons.

Re: Americans in the UKBear in mind that if you have US citizenship you will be required to file US tax returns and pay US tax every year - regardless of where you live and earn your money.(Original post by gm15)
So if my grandparents weren't citizens (just alien residents), my dad was born there (so has citizenship) and I was born here then I can claim citizenship (US)?!
I'm going to go re-read the website.
Also weirdly if I track down the right paperwork I think I can claim german citizenship ...not sure if I could claim german and Us and have 3?!
Everyone gets excited about US citizenship but it's really not a very good idea to have it unless you actually want to live there.
