Hard to keep motivated
So looking back over my first year of college I have found it very hard to keep motivated. I would always end up procrastinating instead of doing my homework and not going to some classes because I wasn't motivated to learn.
I've tried setting myself rewards for doing my work but then I just ended up taking the reward instead.
So is there anyone out there who had the same problem but managed to get over it somehow?
HELLLPPPPP
Rep up to any good solutions. I think this thread may help other people to. -
Re: Hard to keep motivated
I'm very much the same although i have ADHD and a couple of other things. This gonna gonna sound counter-intuitive but in the past i'd not plan anything and just throw myself into it because i don't know if your like me but i find it very difficult to shift attention easily and so i become so preoccupied with what i'm doing at a precise moment that i lose track of other things, i think in the general sense at least people like me find it very difficult to keep sight of the long term reward for studying hard, so i have tried using something like a ticker chart to great effect because theres a short-term reward in getting a tick, its sounds weird i know but there is a visual element to it, and so your brain recognises this short term reward and wants to do more kind of like a domino effect. It does sound child like but imo its all about developing a short term reward system that keeps you studying in the long run.

Re: Hard to keep motivated
I was the same as you, until the end of my first year at Uni!
During second year I started making lists! In order of importance, with the deadline and percentage weighting next to it to help motivate me. Crossing things off my list made me feel incredibly productive and hence let me enjoy the occasional night of procrastination!
That's the best advice I can think of- sometimes it's nice to just chill out and do nothing! -
