Re: Laptops ?You reckon this one's better than the Lenovo for a similar price? I like all three you recommended but I've never heard of Lenovo and am actually intrigued more than put off!(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: Laptops ?
I've own a Toshiba Satellite as does my brother, it should last you a few years. If all you are doing is writing essays and surfing the net. I like to play computer games but i'm too cheap ass to buy a computer to support my addiction, my laptop certainly does not suffice for this purpose.
Personally, I think there is better out there for similar money but Toshiba Satellite is a pretty dependable machine, but you will have to do a lot of research. -
Re: Laptops ?The lenovo is far more powerful, it's just this user is asking for the basics and I suppose at a low cost.(Original post by PatrickD)

The only difference is a slight smaller hard drive and less ram. Lenovo is actually quite well known. -
Re: Laptops ?
If I was to take a laptop into lectures, is there a size which would be too big and just be annoying? I think my current laptop is 15'6 but I need a new one so just wondering what would be best...
Also, I would use it for work, general Internet browsing, streaming/downloading vids.
Would you suggest the same laptops, as above, for me?Last edited by Tpos; 03-07-2012 at 23:33. -
Re: Laptops ?It doesn't matter to be honest, just get one that does the job regardless of size, though a large one will put a strain on you carrying it around(Original post by Tpos)

Re: Laptops ?Yeah I'll probably go for the second Lenovo then. Looking around it seems a good brand and I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before. Thanks again.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: Laptops ?Pretty much just browsing and word processing, as well as running simple programmes like ChemSketch which any computer can handle. It's reliability I'm most fussed about as I want it to last throughout university. You gave me advice based on this earlier on the main PC advice thread.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: Laptops ?Than I would suggest the same laptops to be honest, if it's just basic stuff, the Lenovo i5 if your gonna do quite a bit more than the basics.(Original post by Tpos)
Ok, just didn't want it to be a pain in lectures, like take too much space or something lol. But I don't want a notebook either.
See my edit in my other post ^
If your gonna do some gaming than you need something with a dedicated graphics card.
Or wait for the new processors if you want better performance and efficiency, may be bit more expensive.Last edited by Iqbal007; 03-07-2012 at 23:50. -
Re: Laptops ?thinkpad are extremely reputable and reliable and so is that Lenovo as it pretty much is a thinkpad, being bought by them.(Original post by PatrickD)

So would the Toshiba be, their both very reliable from what I know and reputable for build quality.

Re: Laptops ?
best spec would probably be roughly i3 processor, 4gb ram, integrated graphics (unless you are gaming or use design applications etc), 500ish or more gb hdd, 15"6,
For your needs I doubt you would need an i5 or 6gb ram, you would probably never use it to it's full potential.
And I would suggest Lenovo or Samsung laptops because of reliability
Although there are other great brands too
