Why and why not should we take drugs?
I myself dont experiment with drugs. However, when it come to drugs, I find our society absolutely crazy. They have lots of benefits and give people exciting states of mind, even improve creativity. Compared to alcohol, i think drugs are more interesting if its popular. Why UK do not legalise all drugs and let people use them instead of alcohol.
Drugs world are new to me,even I know its interesting. Some of my friends at University talk about drugs all the time while the others are like " Nah, ill never try it".
So, yeah, what do you think ab it? -
Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
Why they should: Can be social and generate loads of creativity in music, art etc. (depends what you take) and strange conversations about deep stuff.
Why they shouldn't: Can mess you up badly if you take them too much.Last edited by That Friday Feelin; 03-07-2012 at 19:36. -
Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
So long as they're not abused, there really aren't any true downsides to the majority of drugs.
Their ban is a sad hangover from more prudish times. I do find the societal attitude towards drugs as a whole perplexing, and I only hope that as our generation grows up we can induce a more sensible attitude toward them

Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?I remember hearing a great quote from Bill Maher -(Original post by Chillywilly93)
i agree, other drugs are far more interesting than alcohol.
The Beatles wrote a lot of wonderful songs whilst high out their faces!
My step dad beats my mother whilst drunk on Stella!
This was uploaded to The Student Room from the inside of a cashew nut
"The Beatles took LSD and wrote Sgt. Pepper. Anna Nicole Smith took prescription drugs and couldn't dial 911" -

Tea (caffeine) is the only drug I need. One day, I'm going to write a Trainspotting/Fear and Loathing style book, with tea as the drug of choice for the characters. -

Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?Well, that is a given really. As a generation matures it is a sensible prediction that the average usage of drugs will go down - there won't be many 30 year-old fathers of our generation bombing MDMA and going nuts in a club.(Original post by Steevee)

Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
If you experiment with people who know what they're doing and a safe environment, then as long as you don't overuse drugs, then there is absolutely no problem with them. I've done some stupid **** on alcohol, never anything nearly as bad has happened on drugs. As for legislation, alcohol and tobacco are only legal because of their popularity and what it mean socially and economically if they were prohibited. This makes me wonder why Cannabis is not legal and taxed the f**k out of.

What I meant was I hope as our generation grows up we can avoid the mistakes of the past, mainly doing a U-turn on our attitudes toward drugs and instead allowing much more reasonable legislation and even legalisation when we become the middle aged demographic. Something which didn't manage to happen with the kids of the 70's, though I know people who were sure it would. Hopefully the backward fear mongering around them will die a death with the internet generation. And though, I'm sure you're right, there wont be too many 30 year old fathers popping tabs or doing lines, hopefully they will defend the right of the younger generations to do just that. -
Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
I think a lot of drugs are, in my opinion, do dangerous to risk it. It is very easy to overdose on some things and they can mes sup up badly (I have seen this happen). I do drink alcohol, but for me this is safe as I lose the ability to hold a glass way before I reach the point of having had too much.

Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
Well what happens when you take to many 'drugs' and you go into cardiac arrest or need to be taken to hospital?
Everyone else has to foot the bill for your irresponsibility. Fair enough if you're paying for your own medical bills, but you're not.
So the government do the responsibility for you.
Don't try and compare this to obesity please, one needs food to live hence why it is not banned, but yes people can eat to much of it. Last time I checked we do not need some cannabis or ecstasy. Although I do think there should be a limit as to when obesity is treating without the patient doing some exercise/changing their diet. -
Re: Why and why not should we take drugs?
I heard there are potential long term side effects of having weed i.e schizophrenia, hallucinations etc. all sorts of mental problems.
I'd like to know why people still support something like weed in the light of their knowledge of potential long term side effects.
