Probably because the teachers would get in trouble for it? your year11 prom or Sixth form Prom? because yesterday at my prom, we wern't aloud to drink at the venue with the teachers etc
Neither were we. Loads of people arrived drunk already/had friends drop off alcohol for them. Some people put it in their soup. And half the teachers forgot anyway and had a sneaky drink so the entire idea went out the window.

It is simply a drug though.

I hate how society looks so differently at legal and illegal social drugs. You would never get the responses like the one in this thread if the OP said he was contemplating taking weed.

I don't think drugs are something to joke around with.
Come on... Alcohol is worse than weed and I'd say the same thing for both, although I do agree others would probably say "no don't it's illegal"/"it'll make you addicted to it"/"it'll kill you"/etc. Heroin/Ecstasy, I'd say no to.

As for not joking around about it... I think you need to chill out. Smoke some weed.

Fair enough in Scotland we only have one prom at the end of what is our "sixth form"

Although most students are still 17, most of us sneaked in alcohol, got people with ID to get us drinks and by about 10.30pm teachers were getting alcohol for us.

I presume this is the after-party, it's up to you but you don't really need alcohol to lose your inhibitions I don't drink - I still have loosen up and fun around drunk people, muhahahaha, but it's your choice and most of the TSR-ers seem to be encouraging alcohol drinking.

I don't need weed. Therefore I will not smoke weed. If I needed it then that would be a different matter.

well there's nothing wrong with drinking obvs as long as it isn't like overkill... if you want to do it then do just make sure it's because you want to

Something tells me you have tasted it atleast!
But alcohol plays card games with your liver, a game you will never win... At this age dont drink, but when you are older drink in moderation! No need to get stupidly drunk during every night. out.

    Re: Should I drink?
Seeing as you are 16 I cannot encourage drinking alcohol as it is illegal (in this circumstance)

But I will say that I always have more fun when drunk, but have friends who enjoy themselves without drink...

One thing I will say is that as you have not drunk before and you do decide to drink, DO NOT over do it. It can be very easy to go over the limit and then it becomes a less enjoyable experience, especially if you remember nothing or are sick every where...

    Pros to drinking:
    Relax
    Socialize
    Experience
    Will be fun
People often cite those things as pros - but I am able to relax, socialise and have fun without alcohol - I can't understand why people have that problem. As for the 'experience'... well, you get temporary stupid and uncoordinated, may well vomit, and will probably wake up feeling awful - not a great experience imo.

    Cons:
    Never drunk before
Don't want to depend on alcohol to have fun
Will have alcohol in my body
    Just like everyone else
And there's a lot more cons than that.

I'd recommend against. If you can go the rest of your life without it, you won't be missing out on anything, and you'll be reaping a whole host of benefits.

Personally I used to drink relatively frequently from the age of about 15 until 18. Since then, I've barely touched the stuff - been drunk maybe 5 times since the age of 18 (I'm 22). It's not great and I avoid it as much as possible.

Perhaps not Health, although it could be, but I wanted to be anon.

    Pros to drinking:

    Socialize
    Experience
    Will be fun

    Thank you
You can do all that without alcohol, to be honest.
Drink Baileys or champagne, but not vodka or tequila.

If you can go and have just one or two drinks then that's great, i'd do that.
However, i decided not to go to any after prom parties, simply because everybody just wanted to get as drunk as possible. I don't need alcohol to have a good time yet for my friends they hadn't drank enough until they were either sick or passed out. They would have been intent on getting me drunk too and i didn't want that. I did have one drink at my friends beforehand and I had a fantastic evening at prom and i can remember every minute of it

Well we got checked/and if we smelt of alcohol before we got on the coach then we wouldn't of been able to go

    Re: Should I drink?
My prom's on Sunday and although I won't be drinking (not because I don't want to, but because it's not a viable option for me) but I know people that are drinking beforehand.

Even though everyone got a letter saying alcohol isn't allowed and people caught with alcohol or being drunk will be asked to leave, I highly doubt it will be enforced.

I'm like the only person going to prom who doesn't want to :nopity:

We all arrived separately for my prom so there wasn't that issue. Then there was just a huge crowd of us in reception making a racket already so by the time the drunk people got there you couldn't really tell.

I have a sober buddy too! They're great, the two of us stand there having long chats when I'm tired of dancing and half the room is passed out on the floor. Another friend and I have an unofficial contest to see who can create the worst drinks. Anything goes. She usually wins because hers always taste like toxic cough mixture.

Drinking is a social thing and I think you've done well to keep away from alcohol at your age. I don't drink myself and I'm 18. Prom was a great night for me even without alcohol! I think if you really don't want alcohol in your body then there's nothing wrong with not drinking. My friends totally understand and are absolutely fine with it, as am I with them drinking. I have been on nights out where I've not drank but still had an amazing time! It's actually quite funny telling everyone what they did the night before :awesome:
