Margaret Thatcher. Imo, had (rightly or wrongly) the biggest influence on Britain.

Those involved in the Suffragette movement and Thatcher come to mind.

She gave the most publicity to the royal family and her son's wedding was one of the most talked about events in recent times. The way the royals treated her exposed what they really are to the public, but apparently people have short memories and have returned to their usual arse-licking (see Jubilee celebrations).

You need some objective criteria to judge them against. Some made massive differences to different fields such as marie curie who was the first person to be awarded two nobel prizes.

Margaret Thatcher has had arguably the biggest effect on Britain, whether good or bad is down to personal opinion.

Margaret Beaufort , the mother of Henry VII

She was extremely influential in the Wars of the roses, she brought about the marriage of her son to Elizabeth of York and so uniting the two warring houses and continued to have influence her over her son and grandson when they ruled. She was also briefly regent for Henry VIII in 1509.

Would you consider Jane Austen to be one of these figures?

    Well I would.

Boadicea lol. What are you on.

I'd rank Elizabeth the first on top of the pile.
