    Boredom.
I'm beginning a gap year and have a plan to go away for a month or so abroad with a friend, but otherwise I have too much free time.I like having things to do,and when I was at school,homework/exams and going out with friends took care of that. Now nearly all of my friends are off to uni in September I'm really worried about being alone and really bored.I'm looking for a job,and am taking up my old interest in photography.I read a lot,and volunteer in a local charity shop once or twice a week and keep up my languages in preparation for possble uni next year. I'm not sure exactly how to go about meeting people(especially my age) and until I find a job(which could take ages) my funds are low.

I've thought about joining some clubs, but most are really far away from me(which incurs transport costs) or only cater to younger people/much older people pr are really expensive.

    Any help really appreciated.

:hugs: I know how mind numbingly dull gap years can be.
You've got to keep doing stuff though otherwise you'll slip into the 'gap year blues' knowing how all of your friends are having the time of their lives at uni while you're stuck at home.

I started learning a new language
I took the oppertunity to go visit all of my friends at uni (once they had settled in)
I read all the books that I had always wanted to read
I even joined a local bookgroup just as a way of meeting people. You said that there aren't any suitable groups in your area, maybe you could start your own?
I know how easy it is to feel sorry for yourself but don't waste the year - make it count! Don't give up on the job front either, something will come along eventually

Hey im in exactly the same position as you OP. At the moment I am enjoying reading Sherlock Holmes which is killing some time. I do have a job as a casual lifeguard but its proving very difficult to get enough shifts so I am loking for another. Incidentally are you applying to university this year or do you already have a place??
