Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenants
It is double standards. In the article one person says its because they are vegetarians so they want people like them.
Then put vegetarian on the card not Filipinos!
Its not hard to get round it by saying you are looking for someone who follows indian culture and then have a test when they apply. Thats not discrimating against anyone.
Would be interesting to see if all of them where replaced by white only what kind of response it would get. -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsActually it's obviously discriminating against people who don't follow Indian culture...(Original post by Pads)

Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsYes but anyone can follow indian culture. So its not so black and white and you will be able to find someone who shares things in common with you.(Original post by NB_ide)
Actually it's obviously discriminating against people who don't follow Indian culture... -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenants
I think I'm okay with people looking for flatmates to discriminate. I just can see lots of legitimate reasons why they might only want a certain type of person. Eg. Rape victim might well want females in the same house as her
Landlords letting out an empty property on the other hand...well what legitimate reason is there for wanting Indians only? -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsReally sucked if you were a black Irish person with a dog.(Original post by marcusfox)
Going back to the days of 'no blacks, no Irish and no dogs' -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsThere's a massive distinction between acceptable and unacceptable discrimination, and what is or isn't acceptable varies by situation. You're a moron if you think otherwise. Would you expect a company hiring a new employee not to discriminate against those without the right qualifications, or with a poor attitude, or who can't speak the same language as anyone else in the company?

Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsWhen I lived in Ireland, I'd never seen a black person before I saw BA Baracus on TV.(Original post by NuckingFut)
Really sucked if you were a black Irish person with a dog.
Caused so many arguments in the playground when we were role playing the A-Team... -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsI would be more concerned with Trade Descriptions act in the fourth ad - a "Luxarious" flat in Bow? Even spelt incorrectly that has to be an exaggeration(Original post by NB_ide)
This is disgusting:

I quite agree that revolting discriminatory people such as these should face severe legal consequences. Furthermore, I agree with the position that, "...discrimination in flat let adverts may go far wider than race alone. While adverts specifying ethnicity are not common, those that say "female only" or "male only" are widespread.
These also may now be against the law.
"Women-only ads may be against the law unless it can be objectively justified," the EHRC says. "For example, it is usually justifiable for a domestic violence shelter to offer beds to only women or only men for their personal safety."
The same principle applies to age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion, and sexual orientation."
DISCRIMINATION IS WRONG, PEOPLE! Choosing housemates or tenants based on age, gender, differabilities, sexuality, etc. has no justification whatsoever and I find it funny that they will have no choice as to who they share a cell with when they find themselves in prison for racism and discrimination

Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenants
It's great watching the liberals squirm and attempt to justify their bigotry.
When whites or males are discriminated against this is seen as 'acceptable' because there must be a 'good' reason why the landlord doesn't want to house these groups, when Asians or females are discriminated against this is an open and shut case of racism/sexism.
Their blatant double standards are now so obvious even the BBC are beginning to question liberal logic. -
Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenants
I think landlords certainly have to be careful however on the flipside if it's your property shouldn't you have some say in who stays? I think that it's probably possible to express preferences without being labelled as sexist, racist, homophobic, or xenophobic.

Re: Racist landlords and flat-share tenantsmate, you dont have to say this. we get your point(Original post by Steezy)
I've lived in a house full of asian people (I'm white) and tbh I wish they would've said "asians only".
Without being racist & simply describing the living conditions - it was smelly, dirty, loud, different languages (which can be quite isolating) and just pretty inconsiderate.
Not to say all asians are like this (I'm currently living with an Indian guy who is basically just like me & we get on well), but it highlights the differences between cultures.
