Starting new job..imminent holiday!

Starting new job..imminent holiday!
Evening all i didnt know where to put this but here goes.
For the past month i have been in the process of getting employed by a specific company that the work programme has offered me, done the training, doing inductions, paperwork, interviews etc.
Now this whole process started in early June and i have just been given my start date of July 18th....all well and good right? but no.
For you see, a holiday was booked in January for 2 and a half weeks in Spain.. August 4th-23rd
I had no idea the job would take this long to get going and so i will only be working for around two weeks before i have to go on holiday (i'll repeat that was booked in january this year while i was unemployed)
I mentioned to the interviewer that i did have commitments in august and he replied that 'it's fine, by law we have to honour it'
However this is a guy who is working for the agency that will pay us for the first three months..not the company itself and i didnt mention how long i was going for he just said "tell the manager on your first day"
I have an induction next thursday with the actual main company in attendance...so i will probably mention it then.
What do you guys think will happen when i tell them that within two weeks of me starting i will be gone for over 2 and a half weeks?...i accept that i wont get paid for it but im willing to do that.
Any advice guys? -

Just be honest about it. Bring anything that shows when you booked it, like a receipt or something, and make it readily available (i.e. don't wait to be asked) so that they know without doubt that it was pre-booked and that you aren't to blame.
On a side note, how comes you can afford 2 1/2 week holidays to Spain and I can't

Re: Starting new job..imminent holiday!Ahh yeah thanks i'll do that, i cant really afford it lol im on JSA at the moment and it is a struggle..my parents have a studio apartment over there so dont have to pay hotel fees, parents paid for my flights too and well im trying to save up as much money as possible which is hard.(Original post by M1011)

Companies are generally quite understanding when it comes to pre-arranged committments in the first few weeks of a new job; they accept that people will have planned things in advance that are difficult to cancel/rearrange on short notice and especially at this time of year, a lot of people will have holidays booked. So don't worry too much.
