Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkAsk yourself?(Original post by letsbehonest)
So, I'm guilty of this too. I eat anything but pork.
Why is it that a lot muslims tend to eat non halal meat and drink but never touch pork? -
Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never pork
I think its quite easy to avoid pork in todays world however bit harder to avoid non halal shops/restaurants as halal ones are less prominent.
Also I think generally "no pork" is probably the biggest rule of Islam in the eyes of todays Muslim youth and probably the easiest one to adhere to. Thats the impression i've gotten from my muslim friends.Last edited by wenger16; 04-07-2012 at 00:52. -

Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkMaybe it's to do with the area you live in.............but I know what your talking about, I hear this quite a bit from people, some people even have sex, yet don't eat pork(Original post by letsbehonest)

It doesn't make sense for me at all, your still committing sins according to Islam, so there's no difference
I live in an area where you can get a near halal alternative, but sometimes when I can't....I just stick to the vegetarian option. -
Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkDon't do it, just repent and you can stop eating Non-Halal meat.(Original post by letsbehonest)

Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never pork
I live in London so halal alternatives are available everywhere. I usually just settle for whatever looks tastier.
Whenever I think of pork or see it, it really irks me. I start to think that its the nastiest thing ever and shouldn't even be touched. But I don't really know why.
My parents put as much emphasis on drinking ad they did on pork but I think the stuff on drinking came right out of the other ear. -
Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkWhat do you mean by halal beef is the same as non halal beef?(Original post by Dirac Delta Function)
we are conditioned to view pork as revolting. Beef and lamb is not revolting. Halal beef is the same as non-halal beef. There's no halal pork. -
Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never pork
There's a huge stigma attached to pork, it is viewed by Muslims, Jews, and some Christian sects as a dirty animal, and nobody likes eating foods which they perceive as dirty. However, drugs, sex and alcohol aren't viewed as dirty, but just sinful, so there are Muslims out there who find it easier to have sex outside of marriage rather than nibbling at pork.

Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkThat reminds me of the time my friend accidentally gave a Muslim friend a ham sandwich, and never having tasted ham before, wanted to know what it was because it was quite delicious.(Original post by letsbehonest)
What do you mean by halal beef is the same as non halal beef?
(Also, come to think of it Amir wasn't too bothered about checking the 'beef' he thought he was eating was actually halal beef.)Years ago, one of my mates was asian, family originally from Pakistan. They were practising, but not hardcore Muslims. One night we were headed out for a Chinese and his mum explained that they observed the Islamic taboo on eating pork and pork products.
"You must never let my son eat pork, because if it passes his lips he will not be able to enter heaven."
So yeah, fair enough, we respected his beliefs and passed on the sweet and sour pork and my mate still gets to meet Allah.
Months later, we were round at one of the other guy's houses and he'd made some sandwiches for us. Ham sandwiches.
I didn't even think of the whole pork angle until he took a bite and asked Steve, who'd made the sandwiches what it was as it was the best thing he had ever tasted. Steve said it was honey roast ham.
He looked up in horror and said "I'm eating pig?" I can't be eating pig!"? Steve sees his face and instantly twigs, hurriedly tells him that he was kidding and it was actually "specially seasoned beef". He seemed to be cool with this, and was in raptures over the taste.
So Mrs Shahid, if Amir doesn't get in to heaven, you can blame it on Steve.Last edited by marcusfox; 04-07-2012 at 01:45. -
Re: Muslims eat non halal meat but never porkAnd when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, "Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man".(Original post by Dirac Delta Function)

Nicely said. It's religion at the end of the day you can't adhere to some stuff and not to others then you just make a mockery .(Original post by Iqbal007)
