If we wasn't in the EU the chances are we would of ratified this agreement. So isn't it good that democracy prevailed for all of the EU? -

While I'm no fan of ACTA, its defeat will not save the thousands of greek citizens facing unemployment, will not fix the economies of the Eurozone, will not restore powers to democratically elected officials, will not replenish our fish stocks, will not repair the damage the CAP did to European and African farming nor pay back the billions the EU has lost to fraud and mispayments.
One positive act does not make up for nearly 20 years of waste, fraud, lies and disregard of the democratic process. -
Re: ACTA Out. Thanks to EU! UK IN or OUT?So, basically, in the EU with the same agenda we've been pushing since we joined, with no success (apart from Thatcher securing the rebate). France vetos CAP reform, Spain vetos CFP reform and the commission blocks institutional reform. I would prefer to see this as well, but I don't honestly believe it can happen.(Original post by Morgsie)
In the EU and there should be reforms CAP, CFP and Institutional Reform -
Re: ACTA Out. Thanks to EU! UK IN or OUT?
Certainly one piece of good news from Europe although there are clearly issues.
Personally i oppose the veto system, i would rather we moved to a super-majority system instead.
As with Morgsie however i am an optimist although i must acknowledge that any future integration must come at the price of some of the reforms mentioned (namely democratic reform and scraping of CAP). -

Re: ACTA Out. Thanks to EU! UK IN or OUT?Yes, provided that the UK maintains control of taxation, energy, transport and infrastructure then i am not adverse to future integration (anybody who thinks that Labour would not have passed half these EU laws anyway is sadly mistaken).(Original post by ukip72)
Integration involving the UK?
With that said i do believe in serious reform such as..
Giving the European parliament the same power as any other rather than acting like a HOL to the commission.
Scrap CAP.
Reform CFP.
Scrap the Veto power (something like a super-majority instead).
Issue Eurobonds.
...
Should we negotiate those measures then i would be willing to agree to some other powers going to Brussels subject to a true in-out referendum rather than the proposed status quo-out referendum.
Yes i am a Europhile (and a rare Tory one at that) but i do agree somewhat that so far everything has been one way (powers to Brussels with little in return). -
Re: ACTA Out. Thanks to EU! UK IN or OUT?The next significant step of European integration will involve only Eurozone members giving away power over taxing and spending, so further integration by the UK won't happen anyway. (I'm assuming Cameron won't be as spineless and cowardly as he usually is and doesn't love Brussels as much as he seems to).(Original post by Rakas21)

Re: ACTA Out. Thanks to EU! UK IN or OUT?I thought you were an EU buff... surely you know that CAP and CFP are being reformed... won't help the UK out though.(Original post by Morgsie)
