Bath Spa Uni, school placements....
Hi all,
I am the husband of a prospective PGCE student, hoping to study at Bath Uni.
I understand that school placements can be far from the actual uni, but here we have a problem!
My wife does not drive...........at all..........never!!!!
Getting to the uni will not be a problem via train and bus - but what about the schools?
Will this be taken into account when placing her, or will she not get a place on the course, just because she cannot drive?
Cheers.... -
Re: Bath Spa Uni, school placements....They should all be within reasonably close proximity to the Uni. Some might be in biking distance or on a bus route towards the uni. They will never expect a uni student to get a car themselves. I wouldnt worry its all taken into account on application(Original post by carlmt)

Re: Bath Spa Uni, school placements....
I have just finished my PGCE at Bath Spa. Which subject will your wife be studying?
In my subject (subject leaders arrange the placements), priority for close placements was always given to trainees who don't have their own transport. People on my course who didn't drive always got placed on a bus route from their house. -
Re: Bath Spa Uni, school placements....Sounds better and better - she is obviously not the only person in the UK who cannot drive!!!(Original post by Suzanathema)

She will be studying MFL (French with German). She is a French national and, until she came to the UK full-time 6 years ago, relied on the excellent public transport links in France to get about. A bit of a shock for her being in the UK!!!
We currently live in our motorhome in Dorset (as I have travelled alot these last 4 years for my job), but are looking to rent a house on the main rail line from Warminster to Bath - just waiting on the course details from the Uni... -

They have a lot of placement schools along the coast so if she mentions to the tutor she has a place to stay in Dorset, they might be able to sort out a placement there as well.
Good luck!
