    Is my English good enough?
    Hello,

I am an international student and will probably attend the University of Warwick next year (PPE). I am a little bit scared because I don't know if my English level is good enough to go there...

I got 7.5 out of 9 at the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). I am still scared about my English level (even though the University of Warwick asked me to get the grade of 7 out of 9)

What do you think about these fears?
    Thanks in advance!

    Your English seems fine.

Can you understand (not the most basic) jokes in English? I always found that if you can understand jokes in the language, then you can pretty much do anything else.

I understand most of the jokes. But is it enough? I hope so! :P

    An other opinion?

Try something like reading a chapter of Marx online and then summarising the main points.

If you can do that your English reading and writing is probably fine.

If you keep posting on here for that year, you will have all the practice you need.

But seriously, your English is fine.

You've met the requirements, your fears are natural, but honestly my advice is just go for it! There will be others in your position, and I'm sure people will be considerate with helping you whenever you need it etc. But yes, I would suggest trying to read some of the material you will be covering or similar, read quality newspapers, current affairs etc and if you are fine with that you should be alright!

Your English has been good enough to post on this forum and read these replies. Which is fairly impeccable. Most English people wouldn't get past saying "My name is ____" in a foreign language. Don't be scared

    P.S. Enchanté...

I think your English is better than a lot of native English speakers.
The quote above is flawless just be confident and once you start uni and have to speak the language all day, everyday you will wonder why you were ever worried!
    Well done by the way

You have the minimum requirements so as far as they are concerned your English is good enough! Relax

You'll easily be able to find someone once you get here who wants to do a tandem language exchange with you if you want to get in some dedicated speaking practice.

Hey! I'm an international student, too, and I'm also kind of worried about my English (I got 8 on IELTS, so I suppose we're pretty much on the same level). I'm trying not to worry too much, though, because there will be plenty of people like us, and I'd like to think that other students and the staff will be understanding And if not... Hey, at least we'll have each other

I'm studying Economics, by the way. Well, at least I hope so. I've fulfilled the conditions of my offer, so unless something goes dreadfully wrong with the confirmation of my results, I should get in.

Mate, I am doing PPE at Warwick from next year too, your English seems fine.

Pleased to meet you. There won't be that many of us on PPE, I think 80-100.

I agree; I analysed the OP's grammatical structure () and it seems fine.

Oh wow, what course is that?

It's one of the smallest PPE programmes at the top universities, ha. I think both Oxford+York have 200+ for their PPE.

your english is better than loads of the (english) people who post on TSR.

from your post, it seems pretty perfect to me! plus you'll learn really quickly, i had a friend who came to the UK from malaysia and could hardly speak a word of english, within 2 years you couldn't even tell she wasn't english. you sound like you're good already!

there'll be support at uni too, so if you're having any trouble there'll be people to help you

Italian It's actually a reasonably large number this year because a few of us transferred to it off joint honours courses we didn't like!

I see. Are you Italian as well? If you are, must be extremely easy for you.
