Re: The Earth would be far better off without humans.
To the retard who thinks the Earth was made for humanity, you are shockingly arrogant.
People are not just trying to survive otherwise we would all live like the I Kung who live at one with nature. The fact is humans are parasites, all other species live in harmony their numbers don't get too big or too small that was until the abomination of humanity came along. People are like the Orcs out of Lord Of The Rings greedy hateful selfish little creatures. For an example of how selfish people are look at a religion like Islam it believes that the entire universe was created for people just for people how appallingly arrogant. -

And other species don't want to live in harmony; they are simply incapable of increasing their population or quality of life the way that humans can. If, however, a species enters an environment where it can dominate then it will breed out of control and will happily throw ecosystems out of balance. Take rabbits introduced to Australia; they have caused a massive amount of trouble for the local environment. Are rabbits also evil, arrogant little creatures? -
You admit that humans are not unique as a species, they simply happen to be the dominant group at the moment, you seem to suggest that as this is the case of humans are not responsible for this situation hence are not accountable for it so we aren't evil or arrogant etc. but unlike the rabbit we as animals have established viable systems of understanding logic, science and therefore we uniquely are aware of our impact hence are obliged to act responsibly in regards to the planet and all living things, even if not a matter of empathy perhaps out of self-interest We should live more at one with nature rather than exploiting it endlessly, what happens when a species upsets the balance it gets it's ass kicked by nature one way or another.(Original post by Nick100)

We should only live at one with nature when it benefits us. Our food is created by unnatural means and has been for thousands of years; that has benefitted us massively. If we can irrigate a desert for food production, or manipulate a crop's genes for our benefit then we should do so. In a much more extreme example; we should, when we have the technology to do so, alter the environments of other planets so that we can colonise them. -
Re: The Earth would be far better off without humans. This is probably one of the dumbest, most ignorant things I've read on here. We don't even need to get into the mind-blowing denial of the prosperity of industrialisation or the moral advances of monotheism, it's enough to point out that the idea of 'better for the earth' only exists in a human conext. The universe is uncaring. It's not objectively 'better,' other than in the minds of humans, for the earth to be green and full of life than it is for it to be a lifeless, radioactive rock, or indeed, for it to not exist at all. The idea that one is better than the other is a human value judgement.(Original post by Rational Thinker)
Does anyone else think the Earth would be far better off without humans? No other species does horrible things such as industrialising no other species build hideous nuclear weapons. No other species follow religions the majority of which are hateful monotheistic religions more than polytheistic. I think its fair to say humanity is a virus with shoes. -

"We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form."

Re: The Earth would be far better off without humans. It seems pretty clear that you've learned a tiny bit about industrialisation, religion, etc. and are now convinced that you are the great sage for the ages. My tip would be to keep studying. You will have plenty of time to do that, as you appear to be about 12. Your other option is to follow your philosophy to its logical conclusion and kill yourself. I would suggest the former.(Original post by Rational Thinker)

Re: The Earth would be far better off without humans.Other evil effects of industrialisation included the spread of cholera more easily as well as increased exploitation of workers. The fact that you are reduced to ad hominums shows how weak your argument is.(Original post by AdvanceAndVanquish)

Re: The Earth would be far better off without humans.
Eh... there are a shocking number of people here who seem to think that all the other animals live in some sort of utopian harmony.
Have you never watched the discovery channel?
Billions of creatures die every day, many of them in pain and dragged out suffering, and almost none of them (a tiny, negligible amount) are killed by humans or by human effects.
We predate relatively few species of animals, and most of the time, we apply our human conscience to the others in order to save and extend their lives and the success of their species - as a whole, we even want to provide the best lives possible for the animals that we DO predate. I don't remember the last time that a pride of Lions campaigned for Gazelles to live a long, free and happy life before being mauled for consumption. I don't remember the last time that a Fox set up a vetenary surgery for wounded rabbits, despite what a tasty meal they would make.
If the Earth was without humans, then another species would become top predator, have a near-monopoly on the Earth's resources, and probably end up evolving to create similar societies and industrialised regions as we have.
Our presence on Earth does have its downsides for certain other species, but this is more the fault of nature and natural selection than it is of ours. Everything creature fights to survive, and it's very seldom that one species' fight to survive will not have detrimental effects on another. What are we to do about it? There is nothing we can do about it, and there's nothing we have to do about it, because there's nothing wrong with it.
Please get the image of fluffy bunny rabbits, foxes, wolves, lions, snakes and whales sitting around a campfire singing kumbaya, and humans being some evil selfless creature hiding in the shadows waiting to pounce. Nature is horrible in many respects.Last edited by ThisIsTheLife; 06-07-2012 at 14:49. -

No sorry that won't wash. Because of peoples destruction of animal habitats a large amount of animals are killed everyday directly by people. Oil spills caused by parasetic greedy companies means that ecosystems are hugely damaged. Peope are scum.
