Resolution 2012/09 - The temporary suspension of the Syrian Arab Republic from....

A new resolution from Georgia:

Resolution

Committee: Security Council

Submitted By: Georgia

Deeply disturbed by the genocide being committed in the Syrian Arab Republic by the al Assad regime,
Believing that it is unacceptable at the MUN to have representatives of a regime which is committing such horrific acts of violence sit amongst us,

1. Calls upon the Security Council to temporarily suspend the Syrian Arab Republic from the MUN,
2. Proclaims that is should not be in the moral conscience of any democracy of this world to sit in the same room as representatives of a regime that is committing genocide everyday,
3. Suggests that the Syrian Arab Republic is reinstated once the al Assad regime has left office,
4. Expresses its hope that the Security Council can put aside its self interest and support this resolution,
5. Urges all nations represented at the MUN to support our resolution.

This is now open for debate!

The UK does not expect support from Russia or China, but having no mutual diplomatic relations with Syria, the UK approves this resolution.
The US will support this

The Czech Republic fully supports this resolution, and hopes that Russia and China will see the true nature of the situation and not veto this.

OOC: Is there any precedent for this in MUN history? If this passes, do we abolish the position of the delegate of Syria?

OOC: I'm not sure if there is a precedent. Bear in mind this isn't calling for permanent expulsion just temporary. If this goes ahead there can be multiple discussions on Syria's status if need be. Evetually if the GA decides it's time to allow them back in it would be done via resolution.

Turkey supports this motion to a great extent. Syria's actions are an abomination.
:bump:
India believes that the terrible actions of the Syrian government should be loudly condemned, but urges caution in the support of Syrian opposition groups, as they are leaderless, and have also been responsible for terrible crimes. India believes only diplomacy can solve the situation and resolutely supports diplomatic efforts in the region.

China will support Russia's stance in this vote. We believe selective nation-building to be a very fine line between humanitarianism and worldwide hegemony.

[OOC] Luckily, we're not a democracy. [/OOC]
