    I happened to be in this situation on a busy road with houses on one side. What would you do with the note?

    I was going into the student union and looked at my feet and saw a tenner once. Picked it up and looked around waiting for someone to say "oh i just dropped that". noone did so me and my mate got a few free drinks in. was well good.

    If I saw the person dropping it, I would hand it back to them. If the owner is unknown, I would take it.

    If I saw the person who dropped it, I'd definitely catch them up and give it to them. I'd hope people would do that for me.

    If I couldn't find anybody to claim it, I'd probably have it, because it'd only get taken by the next passer-by
