Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixHe was a tenth up after the first sector and then a second up after the second sector.(Original post by Like_A_G6)
With Button, on his final run he was one tenth UP on the fastest time after the first two sectors I believe, and completely backed off in the final sector. -
Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixUp on the P17 time but 1 tenth up on the P1 time.(Original post by Silkysam)

Up on the P17 time but 1 tenth up on the P1 time.

Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand Prixdoesn't matter, waved yellows in final sector mean if you set a faster time under them you get a penalty.(Original post by Like_A_G6)
I do think McLaren should have come on the radio to JB telling him Glock spun half way down the pit straight. -
Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixNot really. With new tyres, improving conditions, all he would have to have shown to the stewards is he lifted off the throttle.(Original post by SciFiRory)

Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand Prixpretty sure it's if you set a faster time...that's what they were saying on TV anyway...(Original post by Like_A_G6)

Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixThat's what they base it on but what if you set a really slow banker lap, and then do a flying lap but back off enough in the final sector to slow, but cross the line still being much faster than your slow banker lap. They can only compare apples to apples. Provided conditions stay the same, a faster sector time shows you didn't lift enough, however if conditions are always changing, a faster sector time cannot confirm you didn't slow down enough. Teams have enough telemitary (or however it's spelt) to show and prove whether the driver lifted or not.(Original post by SciFiRory)

I could be wrong, but that's my take on the rules.
Section from FIA rules 4.1.2 on yellow flags:
That's all it says. So if you can prove you reduced your speed, did not overtake, or did any other avoiding action, you'll be safe.- Single waved: Reduce your speed, do not overtake and be prepared to change direction. There is a hazard beside or partly on the track.Last edited by Like_A_G6; 07-07-2012 at 14:16. -
Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixI think a faster lap is ok, as long as you have a slower sector than before in the waved yellows part. If you have a faster sector, you're in trouble, if not, its fine.(Original post by SciFiRory)

Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand Prixaye but judging how to set a slower sector and have it be a faster lap is likely what caught him out(Original post by F1Addict)

Re: 2012 Formula 1 British Grand PrixYeah, that's right. You need to prove that you lifted where the yellow flags are (i.e a slower sector time).(Original post by F1Addict)

would easily have made it without it, oh well, if is a wet race he still can do something.
