How to treat this pain?
I'm getting back into doing weights at the gym, but one session in, I'm feeling the aches.
Part of the pain is about 1.5-2 inches up from my elbows on the tricep side. There is also some pain in the pecs, right where the skin starts to go underneath the arms. Most of the problem is the tuggling feel along the entire length of my forearms, pretty much all the way from the elbow to the wrist and it goes on the under side of the arms.
It hurts to press the area, as well as move. I can still do work (moving myself around) but with discomfort.
So it's definitely stretching pains from over exertion, but I'm not sure what to do about it. When working out I only did what was within my limit, but of course challenged myself over the course of normal progress. I probably could've done a better muscle warmup, but the damage is done.
It has been hurting without any progress for about a day and a bit. I also managed to develop flu shortly after, so that isn't helping things!
Is this a muscular problem or perhaps tendons? If so, which course of treatment can I follow at home?

Re: How to treat this pain?Should I try using something like Ibuprofen gel on the areas, would that do any good?(Original post by BKS)
DOMS? You should expect a lot of that starting back. Get plenty sleep and eat well and you'll be fine by tomorrow or the day after at worst
General tightness, stretch more. Static stretch on off days and foam roller after work outs
Anything else see a doctor -
Re: How to treat this pain? Can if you want, I'm allergic so never tried it but can't hurt.(Original post by SillyEddy)

If it's DOMS or general tightness then really you need to HTFU since it's not an injury, it's something that happens when you exercise. It will lessen in a few weeks but if you keep working hard it will keep happening and that's a good thing
Though being someone on the internet and not a someone who has any proper medical knowledge I can't tell you if it is DOMS or general tightness or not -
Re: How to treat this pain?
Well I'm just interested in getting rid of the symptoms, as I do quite a bit of lifting and moving of things at work, and this would prevent me from working to my full. That said, working for 2 weeks with blistered feet has happened before, so it's within my power to overcome some pain :P

Re: How to treat this pain? That's a wee bit of a problem really. The soreness is to make you rest. You need to rest to recover properly. You need to recover properly to get stronger, faster ect. Removing the symptom will encourage you to do more than your body wants you to be doing(Original post by SillyEddy)

If I were you I'd be working on taking it easier at work and arranging workouts so to minimise how much it coincides with lifting at work -

Ibuprofen for a bit of DOMS? cmon, man the **** up (and that's the only time you'll ever hear me say that). I ****ing LOVE the feeling of DOMS. You should too. You should cherish your doms now, because you'll miss them when you stop getting em. There's nothing in the world like beginner doms
