How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
I was just reading an article about girls who spend hundreds on their prom and it really shocked me. I was reading the break down of what they actually buy and they're spending hundreds on dresses, over £100 on hair and nails etc and it's shocking! They're saying how they wouldn't want to go if they couldn't afford a nice dress, and how people whose families don't work aren't going because they can't get nice dresses.
My parents don't work so I bought everything for prom myself -
Dress - £15. Shoes - borrowed from my mom. Ticket - £8. Hair - done for free by my mom's best friend (who isn't a hairdresser, she's just skilled with curling tongs). Make-up and nails - done by me. Jewellery - necklace was a birthday present from the year before, bracelets were given to me as an early birthday present by my mom's best friend. To get there, my mom put ribbons on our people carrier and drove me there
So... I spent £23 on my prom

Re: How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
I really just used it as an excuse to upgrade my tux. I wear black tie about ten times per year for other events - and my old gear wasn't really matching (dinner jacket off black, nothing really fitted). I just used our leavers ball as an excuse to improve what I wear for those things. I spent about £120 at a combination of a second hand shop and debenhams

Re: How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
I spent £300 on my year 11 prom dress because it's the only excuse I'll ever get in my life to go all-out on a big princess dress.
I spent £50 on my year 13 leavers do shoes and dress because it wasn't as formal so I couldn't give a flying **** :P -
Re: How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
My formal suit was an ex-rental tux which i picked up for 20 quid lol.
My shoes were like a tenner
My shirt was the most expensive thing - 25 :P Tis a nice shirt though
Tickets were 20 or 30 quid each (I think) to my formal not my prom, dam americanisms
Spent less than expectd on booze (20 or so) -
Re: How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
we had a really formal end of school ball, (year 13) so i spent £60 on a dress. (ebay is a good place to look because you can get dresses people have bought for a wedding or something and only worn once, but for half the price!)
i did my own hair and makeup, borrowed some shoes from a friend. i drove there with my parents and went back on the tube! depending on how formal it is, you can get away with hardly spending anything. £300 is so unnecessary. i thought i'd spent a lot at £60!
we didn't have to buy tickets because we spent the year raising money for it, and organised it ourselves. all the drinks were free too. -
Dress: £15 (was supposed to be £75), Shoes: Borrowed, Hair and Make-up etc: Free (from my mam and my dad's friends wife), Ticket: £26, Transport: £7 and lastly Alcohol: We will have to see but I'm guessing it will be about £25 cause it's a posh hotel we are going to!
So all in all roughly £73 pound! -
Re: How much did you spend on prom/leavers ball/party etc?
You're ticket was only 8£! Ours was 30£!!!
Mine's tonight!
Anyways, my dress was 55£, but it's also for formal wear for a cruise I'm going on and it's one I can wear again as it isn't too posh. I'm borrowing a clutch. My shoes were 18£. Doing hair/makeup/nails myself. Borrowing some jewellery.
Then I have saved up 60£ to spend on drink on the actual night haha :P
But my year 11 was way more expensive. I had a 150£ dress 'cause it's the only chance to ever wear a purple, lacy princess dress. We had a limo and my portion was 25£, my air cost 20£ and I already had some shoes from a wedding and I borrowed a clutch. -
Due to the total carnage that occurred in Newcastle last Thursday, my prom was rescheduled. This meant I had to pay for hair twice

My dress was £180 but my sister used her student discount on it, so it cost about £150.
My shoes were only a few quid.
Hair was £30 a pop.
Make up was £15.
I borrowed jewellery from my family.
