Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for AS
When I did AS I only used the Chemical Ideas textbook and made notes from that, and I came out with a fairly good grade. However I would, as already outlined above, advise you to use the Revise AS Chemistry for Salters guide also - it was really useful for A2 so I assume the AS version is just as good

It's not that bad, the worst part is the Individual Investigation at A2 but everyone powers through(Original post by GreenLantern1)
I'm doing htis next year. Apparently it is dreadful. So I may got to another school that I got accepted by as they do Edexcel!

Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for ASWell it is a lot harder than it could be! I mean for the practicals we were told you have to do a write-up. For Edexcel all you have to do is write down the result of an experiment... such as chemical turned blue. And the Edexcel exams have many 1 mark questions with 20 multiple choice questions. It is definitely the easier choice to do Edexcel!!!(Original post by manic_fuzz)

Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for ASAt A2 yes, but at AS we just did a normal assessed practical. Well whatever floats your boat(Original post by GreenLantern1)

Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for ASIIRC it was just similar to an ISA, in that we had a paper which outlined the experiments we had to do and then we had to answer questions relating to what happened. It was like a lot of mini experiments with colour changes/precipitates/etc.(Original post by GreenLantern1)
soo what you have to do for AS practicals? -
Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for AS
I found that the salters as revision guide was too brief and simple. I mainly used the Chemical Ideas book but don't fall for the trap that you don't need the storylines book as well. The school gives you both books but most students ignore the storylines book. This is not wise as OCR B is based on putting chemistry into context. For F331 you'll need to know what are the adverse effects of certain pollutants which aren't said in the Chemical Ideas book. Contextual type questions do come up in the exams and they're not that bad so long as you use both books. Use CI more throughly than CS as there some stuff in CS that's *******s.
My friend used the CGP AS revision guide instead of the salter's endorsed guide and got 100% UMS in F331. Then again, he works very hard and is pretty damn clever.
There is also this book provides really usefull information on how to do well in F333 (internal assessment encompassed over five skill areas). The revision guide doesn't give info on F333 so this book may be useful although I never bought because I was only made aware it's existance after I'd done all my skills and got marks I was happy with. You get 3 shots to do each skill and you keep your best mark.
Many students agree that Salter's Chemistry is hardest chemistry exam board to do it with but if you have a good interest in chemistry then you should enjoy it. But I'll admit that I'd rather do the Edexcel chem exams as F336 coursework is just mad
Try asking your teachers if you can borrow a Chemical Ideas book and download the F331 spec and just go over a few concepts to a get feel of it. -
Re: OCR Chem B Salters - Best Textbooks/Revision guides + material for ASI didn't use the Storylines books at all? Albeit it seems that the revision guide does concisely go over what you need to know in terms of contextual information(Original post by EstebanK0)

I know it's not specifically for OCR B salter chemistry, but it seems better than the chemical ideas book for OCR B salters. The chemical ideas book has some questions in it which need some datasheets containning tables that I can't even find. Also it's got very few questions. The OCR A book above has a lot of questions though, it seems so much more better. So is it a good option to use this as well as the chemical ideas book??? btw, I do OCR Salters as well
