Re: Redundant...... Job interview tomorrow for Job I don't wantOf course!(Original post by kjglen24)
Basically I got made redundant today... Not happy but nothing I can do about this!!!
I have been offered a job interview tomorrow, £3000 a year pay cut and 1hr away from my home. Should I go? -
Re: Redundant...... Job interview tomorrow for Job I don't wantWell the thing is, it's not a pay cut because, as from today, you don't have a job at all. No job = no pay.(Original post by kjglen24)

Go to the interview. You don't have to take the job if you get offered it but I think you're a fool not to go. At the moment getting a job interview is an achievement, let alone getting a job offer. -
Re: Redundant...... Job interview tomorrow for Job I don't wantIf you don't want the job, just ask them which union represents their workforce and whether they would object to you joining it, or, if there isn't one, starting one up. Also ensure, for your own well being, that Health & Safety is up to scratch.(Original post by kjglen24)

Re: Redundant...... Job interview tomorrow for Job I don't want
Unless you've got any other offers or anything, I'd recommend you go. Most people during their lifetime are going to have to do jobs that they don't want and don't even enjoy, it's a sucky part of life I'm afraid :-/
If it's a hour away, consider how much of your wages will go on transport. I was offered a job that was near, half an hour or so, enough if I drove (I don't drive yet, haven't even got a car) but by public transport would take two buses and an hour and a half because the buses in my area are awkward, so a lot of time and money would have gone into just getting to work, and maybe about a quarter, if not more, of my wages would have gone on getting there! -
Re: Redundant...... Job interview tomorrow for Job I don't want
Well certainly at least go to the interview! 3000 a year is barely anything. If you rent you could easily rent a slightly cheaper place nearer to your place of work and getting rid of your car would immediately save you the difference in wages.
If you're old enough/in enough of a real job to care, I wouldn't think your "market value" is going to be significantly affected by a drop of 3000.
