Yeah I guess so I hadn't actually thought about that lol. I think it's probably writing quickly in lectures, I know my friend with dyslexia struggles to take everything done in the lecture because of it so it might be because of that. I used to take a dictaphone into my lectures which helped me, even though I don't have a disability sometimes felt a bit much writing everything down quickly.
Fair enough but in lectures you are not supposed to write everything down. It is about listening and learning to note down the relevant bits and settling into your own system of summarising and abbreviating (e.g. dashes, bullet points, indents, paragraphs, diagrams, symbols....or whatever..).

To record a whole lecture on a dictaphone means you have to listen to the whole lot over again. How tedious and time wasting when one could be out socialising.

I got into a routine of going over my written lecture notes at the end of the day, with tipex and a highlighter and a pen for underlining. Then I filed them in the relevant ringbinder. In that way months later come revision for exams, everything was in chronological order and in a revisable state. Sorry, I know I sound like a real know-it-all pain in the butt and I know everyone has their own way of doing things, but that system worked very well for me anyway. Lecture notes don't have to be pretty, so long as the student themself understands it. Your friend is dyslexic. I don't mean to sound mean towards dyslexic people. Saying that though, I think dyslexic students at uni should be able to take their own notes. If the notes are for them to use, then the grammar does not matter.

There is/was this flu camp thing where you get like £3000 for treatment testing/medical research, you stay in a little flat for either a week or a few weeks and see if the treatment works. you might die or lose you fingers though

Well, the understanding thing I think is pretty much the reason behind it. Having someone copying down the notes means you can concentrate on understanding and listening; people with dyslexia may struggle to get the writing down while still listening, especially as dyslexia is often linked with short term memory problems.

Btw, what you write depends on the nature of the subject and the resources that the lecturer provides. I studied maths and we literally write down everything in a lecture. The course was very lecture focused (rather than additional reading) and if you missed stuff out it just wouldn't make sense. When I first went in to non maths lectures for free choice it took ages to adjust as I was trying to write everything which just didn't work for arts!!!

Edit: oh and also, thought I'd add there are uni obligations too. For example, they may have to provide notes for students with certain learning difficulties but the lecturer may not produce full notes. With subjects where there is a lot of text and symbols this might not be plausible.

Well a quick way of making a pretty peny is always medical trials, little adverse affects and a hefty pay off, for a student anyway

Yes that's true, there is loads of resources on the Internet to help you learn

If you have a £500 account you can make £10 to £15 a day trading conservatively
Hi, thanks for the post. Tried to learn forex trading by using online tutorials but seems difficult. Like you need someone face to face, not some online "guru".

Haha, sounds fun. Not sure I'd be up for it if it was CT scanning though, not a fan of the needles.

If anyone is in Leeds then Covance do clinical trials and some pay up to 4000.
    I'm going to Leeds!

But I'm not so sure about clinical trials :-/

Does Leeds do psychology surveys/questionnaires, stuff like that? And how much would they pay?

In an ideal situation yes, but it can be hard to get hold of someone genuine to teach you. I learned the hard way, through practising and losing money. But believe me, once you know what you are doing your pretty much sorted.

PM if you want some more info

They do psychology stuff and focus groups but the pay isn't huge.

Covance is round the corner from the Medical School and next to Cafe on Campus. Cafe on Campus is really nice (you get a discount) with your student ID card .

You can also do tours for potential student and get paid which isn't bad either.

    What you going to study?

Slightly more long term but could you become an SR (Senior Resident)/Hall Wardan at your halls accommodation? You tend to only work one night a week and get half price rent. This freed up a lot of money and made it easier for me to live off what I got and a chance to save..

During World and Euro Cups you buy lots of Panini Stickers and sell them on ebay. People are willing to pay loads when they know what stickers they get. (I did this light heartedly and made around £300 of which 40-50% was profit)

I thought dyslexia was to do with words not numbers?

Yes I take your point that Maths students don't just write down numbers in their lecture notes. I am not dyslexic and so I do not have the experiential understanding of what it is like and how it really affects a person in classroom situations. I assumed, probably incorrectly, that if it didn't matter about spelling, syntax, correct grammar etc, in lecture note-taking, then a dyslexic person could forge ahead anyway and write down their own individual notes that they would be able to interpret clearly despite the inadherence to conventional rules. From what you said, I think it may not work that way in reality, so I got it wrong.

In addition I have found a part time job with the following decent mode to make it a bit of some of the cash

During the student loan the mian aim is of proof of reading/data entry. You can even ask the college lecturer if you need a loan for their research project. The uni will generally pay for a decent wages.

I tend to use Survey Sites like Toluna or Paid Surveys. Although I have found it difficult to actually qualify for surveys. I also use a site called Swagbucks. I usually earn £10 to £15 a month in amazon vouchers or paypal gift cards. Also, I'm a big fan of Amazon trade in. Please feel free to message me if you want to know about any other sites I use for saving money.

I used to be a tutor, did 2 nights a week and 1 weekend morning. Fairly easy to do as long as you have decent academic credentials.

Paid surveys do for me too, not probably the best money you can make but not bad when you are bored and some are quite interesting too (about new concepts, product testing, etc.)
