    Buying new car, insurance question
I am paying £67 per month car insurance, I am buying a new car on Monday and my monthly payments will go up from £67 to £82. On Monday I will need to drive the new car home, thus I will need insurance. Instead of buying one days insurance for about £30 with temp cover, I will ring up my existing insurer and get them to swap the insurance from the old car to the potential new car.

When I ring up my insurance from say the ''car sellers home'' will they immediately switch the insurance from my old car onto the new one just bought, also will I be charged there and then on the phone the fee for making a change on the policy?

    something else......

My insurance is due on 22nd, if I buy the car on Monday which will be the 9th, when will I pay the increase £15 per month insurance, will it be the day I ring to swap the insurance over or will it be added onto the 22nd payments and onwards?

It varies with each provider - your best bet is to phone them and ask their advice - they may also be able to enter all the details of the new car so you won't have to go through it all on Tuesday sorry I couldn't be more helpful

You'd have to inform them you intend to cancel the previous policy and create a new one. Do it ASAP

    What??

Why would I want to cancel my existing policy which would mean a waste of 5 months insurance and starting back at square 1 to gain my ncb?? I'm wanting to swap insurance from old car onto new, that doesn't require cancelling the whole policy, duh!!

Its not a big effort, all I need to do is give them the registration number, I can't swap the insurance over until the day in case someone else gets the car before me

When I swapped my insurance onto a new car with Admiral a couple of months ago, they covered me for both cars on the day I was due to pick it up so you don't have to worry with exact timings. Just phone them the night before and you'll be ready to pick it up.

Is there a reason you didn't phone your insurer to ask this question?

I don't want to do it the night before, in case I get there and the car has been sold to someone else.

When you switched cars did you pay the policy change fee instantly on the phone, when did you pay the increase/decreased monthly payments, was it on your next monthly payments or the day you switched the insurance over?

Is there a reason as to why you don't answer questions?
