    Re: Bournemouth Nursing Accommodation!
Hi Natalie, I'm at BU atm I've had a Poole locality and been living in the halls there obviously, but I have quite a few friends in the bournemouth locality.
You can basically apply to any halls tbh! Purbeck, Cranbourne and Lyme Regis are right in the centre of Bournemouth town and literally a couple of minutes walk from Lansdowne campus which is where you'll be studying. This makes them ideal for living in while you're at uni, and theres also a lot of regular bus services from here and the bus station (5 minute walk away) to the hospital site. They also have an amazing social life and you're right next to the Old Firestation which is where all the student union events take place and is basically where most students go out to at night
You could also apply for Abbotsbury House, which is accomodation specifically for nurses and midwives. However, these are located in Boscombe, which means you'd have a longer commute to both uni and placement. But it would mean you're with all nurses and it'll be a bit quieter if thats what you're looking for.
I've had friends who have reccomended both abbotsbury and the other halls, but I would reccomend staying away from Hurn.. It was a repuation for being a bit of a dive!
Hope this helps, feel free to ask anymore questions

Hi, i'm in the same boat - i'm doing nursing starting in september. you said you can apply to any of the halls, but not all of them offer the 50 week contract so what have your friends who are staying in the bournemouth locality done in those extra weeks?

When it comes to it your halls (if there is enough interest) will offer the choice of a summer let for additional rent. Like here in Corfe I've had to move flats to one thats been filled with other nurses so they can close the other flats. If there's not enough interest in your halls (which there pretty much guaranteed will be with the amount of nurses living in bournemouth) then they'll move you to a different one, there's never a situation where you'd be homeless for summer

I would if you have a poole locality, yes. Think of it this way; your placement is basically going to be your job. They don't mind you being late for lectures, but you can't really be late for your job.

It's annoying, definitely. But something that has to be done really. You *can* go for the bournemouth halls, but getting to Poole when you're on a hospital placement and you have to be on the ward for 7:45am will be much worse than getting to uni for 9/10 if you live in Poole and commute to bournemouth.

But there's also the plus of living near the shops and nightlife, did many people live in Bournemouth and commute to Poole during your first year? X

I'm doing childrens nursing, and as for my course no, no one who had a poole locality lived in Bournemouth.
The uni states pretty clearly that you NEED to live in your locality. It really is just isn't reccomended at all to live outside.
I know a handful of girls who lived in bournemouth, some were at abbotsbury and some in the main halls. All have said how bad it can be. Especially as you aren't guaranteed a placement in the main hospital, a lot of the first year placements are in the locality. Meaning surrounding area. Meaning it can be very tricky getting an early enough bus, and you do not want to be late for placement.
If you have your own car, it can be done in theory, but if you're going to be relying on public transport then it's basically going to be more hassle than a couple of extra nights out are worth.

But to be perfectly honest, nightlife and shopping should not be highest on your priorities

Ah thank you so much for all of that, good to speak to people who are already there and know what its like ! I applied to abbotsbury in the end, thought it was a bit annoying with having to apply for summer accommodation if i were to live in like purbeck etc. Do you know many people atm who have live in abbotsbury?
