Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...
Bristol, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield... depends on what you are looking for. Edinburgh and Aberdeen are pretty small compared to the others, and not perhaps as varied, but they have pretty good employment opportunities, especially Aberdeen.

Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...The stereotype of London as unfriendly is plain wrong. The pubs and clubs are just as friendly as any others in the UK, the people are perfectly nice. Just in a city with lots of crime, talking to people in the middle of the street is obviously going to be looked on with suspicion, and its impossible to start a conversation on the tube or whatnot because people are constantly getting on and off and moving. That being said, I can't remember the last time I talked to a stranger who wasn't drunk in Glasgow or Edinburgh, but in London it happens all the time.(Original post by No Man)
I wouldn't deem London as a fun place to live (unless you're a fan of crowds/stern people). -
Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...London is awesome, you can do almost anything here.(Original post by No Man)

Anyway, there are plenty of graduate opportunities in Holland and I'm sure there are plenty of fun places to live there. -
Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...You've obviously never been to a pub in Glasgow (the 'friendliest city in the UK' according to various studies).(Original post by Joinedup)
Leeds was a white collar boomtown... Might have calmed down there a bit now.
Agree with london being unfriendly, try talking to someone in a pub and they look like they'd rather shank you than pass the time. -

How is the weather in Aberdeen? never been there but a friend told me it's too tiny for my liking. I'm used to live in big cities (london/paris/stockholm).
Most importantly for me, is the friendliness of people and how sociable they are because I will be moving on my own
Way too far and expensive.(Original post by resentment.)
Australia.
How do you know about that? & I don't speak dutch.(Original post by No Man)

Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...I've had a look at what there is, and you don't need to speak dutch in the Netherlands since most of the people speak better English than British people themselves, and apparently they reply in English if you try to speak dutch.(Original post by destination unknown)

Maybe when you order a beer. I don't think Dutch companies are going to be much impressed by an unskilled graduate turning up who doesn't speak the local language.

Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...Obviously haven't done your research; the cost of living is approx. a third of that in Aus than in the UK. Plus if you had your head screwed on you'd know about grad schemes, free visas and the growing economic climates. You're guaranteed a job if you have a trade.

Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...Complete rubbish. A third of the cost? I've lived in Australia for a few months last year and day to day items in Australia such as groceries are as expensive, if not more expensive than the UK. Prices are rising a lot out there too.(Original post by resentment.)

Housing is expensive in London and parts of the South East but outside of those areas its quite cheap. The same can be said for expensive places in Australia like Sydney. -

Re: Apart from London, where can you find a good mix of...It varies. Really you can't generalise: it is often 4 or 5 degrees colder than London in winter, but on the other hand it had less snow than the South of England this year and the record temperatures for Scotland are often in Aberdeenshire during the summer.
Well, you can't generalise about the people in any city. Stereotypically, they are slightly reserved compared to a Glaswegian for example, but really you can find sociable and friendly people anywhere if you look. Living in a small city is not that bad, Aberdeen is very small compared to the cities you mentioned but it has less crime and is much less anonymous as a result.never been there but a friend told me it's too tiny for my liking. That's not a problem, Dutch companies are crying out for graduates right now, and I have a few Dutch friends, some expats and some natives, who all agree that pretty much everyone in Holland speaks English. It's probably got the most English speakers of any country that is not native English speaking, and there are lots of opportunities for non Dutch speakers: think about it, they have plenty of English speaking native Dutch speakers, and a foreign Dutch speaker can never be as good at Dutch, so its the native English speakers that they need. How do you know about that? & I don't speak dutch. -

greece is tipped by many experts to be a great place for youth looking for jobs, and it is quite literally a riot at the moment. Why don't you try a start-up there? -
