secularisation theory has many flaws of course, but one that is often overlooked is the criticism that secularisation is often conceptualised through the prism of influence over legislation, education etc, without considering the effect it has on how people frame reality. It is quite successfully argued that religion (like language and ideology) provides dynamic horizons of meaning through which the world is filtered. in this sense secularisation is a misnomer that only applies to the spheres of socio-economics and poltics, and even then the effect is far from monolithic.
