Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
Hi!
I've been offered a place on MA Consumer Psychology with business, im SO excited! But also very nervous, I'd like to wait for Halls but I don't want to miss out on the nice houses/flat shares in the town. What are your plans?
I'm from Ireland so I was going to make a trip over for a day or two but It would be expensive and I'm not sure I even have the time this summer!
Funding-wise, Ive applied for a bit of a grant from my county council to cover some of my fees but basically I'm trying to get a lovely loan which will keep me in debt for a fews years! Has to be done! Hopefully it will be worth it

Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
Heya,
Another Irish one here! I'm due to start the Neuropsych MSc in Sept( it's all getting scarily close now
). There looks like a lot of overlap between the MSc courses so we'll probably be in a lot of the same classes. I was actually planning on sneaking in the back of both the clinical and consumer psych classes just out of interest!
Did you guys sign up for the email buddy at Bangor? My buddy has been great with advice regarding where to live and where not to go near and answering general queries about the area.
I was advised to look at houses in the areas around Bangor as the main town is very undergradish and the houses can be a bit crap! Plus it's cheaper and I'm bringing my car with me so I don't mind being a few miles away. I'm heading over next week for a day to look at accommodation so if there's anything either of you would like me to find out for you let me know and I'll try my best
Kate
PS AwkwardEnough, I'm doing the day trip on the boat @E39 return (you can go out on the early boat and come back the next afternoon and it's still counted as a day trip) plus staying in halls for a night @ £25 per night so it might not be as expensive as it first sounds. -
Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
Yaaaay other Psych postgrads!! Thats great that you're both from Ireland! Im from Scotland, so I guess we're all coming from far and wide
Its getting scarily close to September! Getting quite nervous and excited!
I got an email today saying i got a place at Bryn Eithin postgrad halls, have any of you applied for halls? I'm a bit apprehensive about accepting it because it was mostly international students that applied for the halls so I dont want to be the only UK student staying there. I would quite like to get a flat, but living so far away I dont have the time or money to go to Bangor to view places.
Kate how did you get on looking at accommodation? I've seen a few adverts for places in Menai Bridge and cause Im bringing the car aswell thought it might be overall cheaper living there.
It'll be great if we share some of the same lectures,I def want to sneak into some of the other psych lectures : )! -
Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
Hi all,
Its nice to see that its not only me thats stressing about accommodation in Bangor.
Im starting in September, and even though its less than 2 monts away I havnt found anything!
I am looking, but I havnt been up to Bangor to have a look....has anyone been? Found anything suitable? Got any advice?
I'll be a postgraduate too, so if anyone fancies buddying up to get a house, let me know.

Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
I got a cancellation in Neaudd Willis but I was over there at the end of last week! There are a few nice rooms around but they are going quick, I've heard its a nightmare getting somewhere come September!
Good Luck with finding somewhere!
So excited for September, Bangor is a lovely town!

I'm glad I'm not the only one currently homeless in September : ) yeh I'd be up for buddying up, if we could find somewhere for several of us that is.
Neuadd Willis does look really nice but sadly on quite a tight budget so just looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful for the yet : )
I'm looking forward to starting in September! But quite nervous because I completed my undergrad 3 years ago so can't remember how to write essays! Hope I'll be able to keep up!

Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
I headed off on holiday (with no internet access
) just after I got back from Bangor so only getting back to this thread now.
I ended up taking a room in a flatshare about a minutes walk away from the main building. It was by far the nicest I looked at, with the added bonus of only needing to fall out of bed 5 mins before lectures start
We stayed overnight in the halls in Bangor and I was really impressed! The rooms were much larger than I was expecting, and had a seriously powerful en-suite shower, and a big communal kitchen. Bit of a maze trying to find your way around the different buildings at first but grand once you get used to it.
I know that registration is on Tues 25th Sept, but does anyone know if we have other stuff to do that week? I'm way too old for the hardcore freshers stuff but it would be nice to have a chance to meet other students, and have something to do apart from countdown to lectures.
Can't believe moving time is getting so close! I had this idea that I would just throw a few things into a couple of suitcases and head off but I've just started to make a list of things I need to bring with me and I am so glad I'm bringing my car, it's looking like it'll be full to the brim
-
Just over a month until we move guys! How's everyone feeling? I was the same I just thought I'd bring a big suitcase and that would be me, but as I add the bedding and kitchen stuff, hmm like you say the cars going to be filled to the brim!
I've found a place on beach road which looks nice so just got to sign everything and pay when I move in. So it's all feeling a little bit too real now : ) when's everyone moving to Bangor?
I'm not really sure whats happening for postgrad freshers, I feel the same too old to be partying non stop for a week but do want to go out have a few drinks and meet new people and see what the uni has to offer. How old are you?
I think we get our welcome packs beginning of September. So maybe that'll give us more information : )

When you applied your name should have automatically been put into the psych buddy scheme unless you ticked the box saying you wanted to opt out of it. I'd give the psych office a ring and they might be able to put you in touch with someone.

Re: Bangor Postgraduate Applicants 2012
Hey!
I know that it's been a few months since anyone has posted here, but I was hoping to maybe get some advice from current Bangor postgrads! I'm in my final year of psychology in Dublin and have received an offer to study Foundations of Clinical Neuropsychology next year. I'm just wondering, how are people finding the course, and what are your plans for after finishing? I think someone from Ireland also mentioned a county council grant from home, so I'm wondering what that is all about too? The course looks very interesting, and Bangor seems like a lovely place, but I'm still just searching for as much information on the course/ job prospects etc. So if anyone would be able to give me any feedback it would be hugely appreciated!!

I received an offer for the MSc Foundation in Clin. Psychology for Sep 2013. I have only heard very good news about Bangor, the School of Psychology there..everything seems to be ideal!
Is the Doctorate in CP you re aiming for? I am thinking of doing the Doctorate after the MSc - this specific Masters will be a good stepping stone..but then I was thinking what if I dont want to go on with post graduate studies: what the value of that MSc will be while trying to find a job at health care settings?
anyway, what are your plans?
regards, Kostas
