Uni help for history of art!
I will be applying to uni soon for history of art and i need help on where is should go. I was thinking of applying to:
    -Courtauld Institute
    -UCL
-Central St. Martins (Criticism,Communication and curation)
    -Manchester
    -Leeds

I'm stuck on what should be my firm (assuming I get the offers) out of CI, UCL and CSM. Any advice?

Is it also worth applying to CSM as the course isn't really history of art?

P.S. I know I'm being presumptuous, but its best I become prepared for such a scenario

If your looking at a career in art history then Courtauld would be the best ! Although it is a small institution and you may not get the same university experience that you might at other places !

CSM - also a bit artsy, it's up to you but I'd leave it off my list!
Have you looked at Oxford, Bristol and York ? They all have excellent reputations for history of art

I will be applying to do History of Art soon as well, I would agree with the person above about choosing The Courtauld as your firm, having just done a summer school there last week which was excellent. The facilities are really, really good while the lectures and seminars were very interesting. The atmosphere was nice too, and everyone there was really friendly. I also liked the fact that they don't just specialize in western and the course is quite broad.

The course at UCL also looks good and they offer lessons in conservation as well, so maybe your choice might depend on what you want to do afterwards and whether you want it be more practical.

Courtauld is an incredible uni that offers high quality teaching for history of art at BA. It is incredibly hard to get into but worth a shot!!!
I applied there this year but was unsuccessful after I gave in my questionnaire. There were 3 questions that were quite challenging!
If you have no experience writing about art, I suggest you begin looking through things they may be looking for.
If you are successful then you get an interview. So for this, I suggest looking over some of your favourite artists and movements and also looking into social movements that influenced art. They love their dutch masters btw
Only apply really if you are very very confident at writing about art because in reality they have so many applicants and only 100 places each year to give out which means they are going to be incredibly picky. They are the Oxbridge for HoA ))
    GOOD LUCK!!

I was going to apply to very similar places to you, I wanted to apply to the Courtauld Institute but I was talked out of it, being just a BTEC graphics student and it's such a competitive place. I was interested in Oxford but I applied too late anyway, unfortunately. They both seem like great places. I applied to Leeds and I acknowledge it was a really good place to go but I knew it wasn't for me.
Central St Martins doesn't focus entirely on the studying of history of art, apparently, it focuses a lot on the writing (hense, criticism). If you are interested in writing, Goldsmiths is also a good place to go (another place I knew was good but was not for me).
Wherever you apply to I can't suggest enough that you go to as many of their open days as possible to ensure that you know where is right for you. It's the course that's important but you don't want to hate being there.

For Courtauld applications they said at a taster day that the interview questions would be things like:

    - do you think that music, photography, literature, the atre etc. has any bearing on art?

Then in the written test you would have quite obscure or bizarre references to stop know it alls just waffling about the painter just because they recognise the piece.
