Let's say you are a player at the club you support (you came through the academy)

You are a world-class player but your club is not that good (mid-table).

You are the club's best player and you are wanted by all the big clubs in Europe - Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, AC Milan etc.

    Would you:

    a) Remain loyal to your club and become a club legend
    b) Leave and fulfil your ambitions as a player at the highest level (winning trophies, Champions League etc)

I think loyalty is important but not to the extent where it starts to jeopardise your own dreams and ambitions. And if I did end up leaving I would try and do it in the most respectful manner to the fans and club.

I'm not sure. If I was settled and loving playing for my club then unless a massive opportunity came my way then I'd stay.

    Stay of course.
This is essentially asking me to choose between living out my childhood dreams, or money and success - money and success won't make me happy, living one of my dreams would - easy choice.

I'd stay, I support that club so will be far more motivated to stay (obviously assuming my salary isnt peanuts and the club I support isnt someone like havant and waterlooville (which it isnt))

I'd say this is only applicable if the team you support is a premier league team (which mine is), or the thought of being at a far better club may be too appealing

Considering that the team I support is Sutton United, if a Premier League club came knocking, I would find it hard to say no. I support Man City to an extent out of all the PL teams and have done since the days of Shaun Goater etc. but it's nowhere near as strong as my affiliation with the club I supported as a baby.

With that being said, if I had world class potential, I'd hate to see it going to waste in the Conference South and I doubt one good player would be enough for us to go further than League Two in any case. I would have to leave and I think Sutton would probably benefit from the transfer fee. If I made enough money, I could help the club out too!

Indeed. I'd stay with Newcastle United as long as i could but if i'd had a chance to leave to a man utd etc when we went down and looked in turmoil i'd have found it hard to say no.

Then there's the Steve Harper discussion. He's stayed with us nearly 17 years. been number 2 keeper most that time, Has hardly made any appearances.
If he had played regular football he could have became Englands number 1. He had the talent. So obviously if i wasn't getting first team football, I'd leave too. Loyalty can only go so far in football. Its a short career, I'd want to play as much as possible.

Also i don't like how some players retire at 33 by saying they want to finish at the top. I'd play for as long as physically possible even if that meant dropping right down the leagues.

I'd stay as er... I support Manchester City, so yeah. Although I've just clicked the wrong option, fantastic, I'll be clearing out my locker then.

No, as an Arsenal supporter I know what it feels like for our best players to leave. I wouldn't do that to the fans.

Even if you're in RVP/Henry situation where you feel you've given good service/your very best years to the club? Let's say you're in a RVP situation and you're just about to turn 30. You're getting to the stage where you want to win things (and can't see yourself winning anything major at the club you're at) and probably are offered a bit of a lucrative contract in the process (let's say the club you're going to are offering you the chance to double your money).

Depend wouldn't it. If you supported a top flight club and were on a mega wage I wouldn't see the point.

But, if you supported Torquay or something, then got an offer from a top flight club, I think you would consider it!

I'm a Reading fan, would probably remain at Reading. Good side, new billionaire ownership, things are looking goooood!

If I was at say United or another club, then yes I would leave.

But because I support Arsenal and I don't think could ever turn my back on them. I have been going to the Emirates and Highbury for years. Arsenal has been major part of my life and wouldn't give it up for trophies. I would rather become a legend at Arsenal.

What if Arsene Wenger bought a new direct player who's competeing for your place and you only manage to make 2 premier league appearances during a season. Then a good club comes in for you offers the same money but you'd start every game in the league.

Your saying you'd just stay for those 2 appearances a season.

Absolutely kidding yourself if you say you'd stay.

I'd stay, as a footballer even if I was only at Sunderland compared to Barca etc. I would have more than enough money - the wage cap is 40k FFS!

    Depends on your mentality.

I'd remain at a club if I was happy, settled, earning a decent wage, playing the right amount of Football.

No reason to go changing things because it can backfire alot.

    Somebody like Owen for example.

I am an Arsenal fan and have been devasted by the loss of big stars.
I would do my best for the club and be an all time great at the club

I'd probably leave at some point but not for money, only for better opportunities.

I'm a Liverpool fan but I'd imagine the pressure on me would be immense if I was a world class player and a fan of the club.

Plus, whilst I'd love to play for Liverpool I'd also love to play in Spain/Italy and then move to America to see out the last few years of my career. Ahhh, it's nice to dream.

What so winning the CL/PL/whatever isn't one of your childhood dreams?

    success won't make me happy
    what?
