It's like me trying to say that british heritage is under threat from atheism because of last years london riots. It's simply wrong to say that...unless you're a troll. -

Re: Egypt's Ancient Heritage Under Threat From Islam.I can see where Martyn is coming from, Islamic authorities do have form in repeatedly destroying the pre-Islamic cultural heritage of their countries.
Saudi Arabia eradicates all evidence of Jewish settlements on its land, despite their existence being obvious from the Koran. The Taliban dynamited the bhudda statues and recently we've heard of militia in Mali vandalising the pre-muslim culture again link.
Having said that, this recent spate in Egypt doesn't appear to be happening under the direction of religious authority so I would be leery of attributing it to Islam rather than to Muslims (difference is important).
It is very unfortunate to see this happening, but lets not forget that they did band together to defend their museums during the revolution so I imagine there's many Egyptians who'd like to protect their heritage. -
