I think they shouldn't have children if they can't look after them and therefore until they can prove they are capable of having children then they can. But honestly, I think social services do a decent job of making sure children go into a safe and caring home.

Re: Babies for mums who can't?Bad mothers as in not strict? Not feeding them right or enough? Not looking after them? You can't really stop people from having kids btw.(Original post by es.c)
My question is:
Should young mums who are BAD mums be allowed to have a baby?
Its either unfair to the mother to say she can't, or unfair to the child to be brought up deprived of a childhood -
Re: Babies for mums who can't?What about older mums who are "bad" mums?(Original post by es.c)

Why do you assume that the younger someone is the worse a mum they'll be?
Yes they're less likely to have a large disposable income, but that doesn't mean they won't look after their child well.
Older mums can be bad mums, look at Karen Matthews. -
Re: Babies for mums who can't?
Why specify young mums? If you're going to say 'bad' mothers shouldn't have kids, surely that should apply to all age ranges? I mean, if you're a bad mother, you're a bad mother, regardless of age.
And it depends on how 'bad' the mother is... I mean, mothers who are bad enough at parenting already have their kids taken away as the system stands (at least, in theory). -
Re: Babies for mums who can't?Agreed. I admit when I found out Peaches Geldof was pregnant, I thought "Oh no the poor child has no hope", but she seems to have really taken to motherhood.(Original post by Annie72)
No one can say for sure that they are going to be a bad mum until they have actually had a baby.
Another example is Nicole Richie, she was a complete mess before having kids, and has now completely turned her life around. -

What exactly constitutes a bad mum?
